This question has probably been discussed and answered many, many times, but I am a newbie to all of this.
I have a 638 snubbie and want to know what the best pocket holster is in terms of it staying in your pocket when you draw your gun out. I don't want to end up with gun and holster in my hand in an emergency situation.

Thanks.

I've used the DeSantis Nemesis & Superfly (Nemesis that's super sticky), Uncle Mikes
as well as a few leather types made by small shops and once I tried a Mika Pocket Holster I never looked back.

The gun comes out & goes back into a Mika better than all the others mentioned.
Don't get me wrong, the others are decent holsters, so your mileage may vary.

The beauty of Robert Mika's design is that it incorporates some sort of thin insert around
the top opening, between the inner & outer layers, which is thin enough to be easily compressed
but resilient enough to keep the top open for easy access to your gun without you feeling any
pressure on your leg (from the insert) or "printing" on the outside of your garment.

Below you will see a close-up of the area of the top insert, which you can see the outline of through
the outer layer if you look closely. This insert basically does the same thing you would if you took an
end opening envelope and squeezed it from the sides in order to get it to pop / splay open.
It's like it serves as a second hand down in your pocket and makes one-handed reholstering a breeze.

One last thing I would like to add. When you order a Mika Pocket Holster it is made
specifically for the gun you call out when ordering, as opposed to the generic sizes,
No.2, 3 etc. on the Uncle Mike's. When I ordered one for the Model 36 Robert called,
which he does for every order, and wanted to know if the gun had adjustable or fixed sights.

With that said, my wife and I mix & match any of the Mika's for our J-Frames with
1 7/8" up to 2.5" bbl's and they work just fine with whatever J we are going with at the time.

Another vote for Mika. I've been very happy with mine.

Robert Mika nailed it with material and talent. His holsters may not be the prettiest but they're all you need and nothing you don't.

+1 I PREFER the looks of a nice leather holster but the added bulk of leather does not help you at all.

Physical size, and clothing may come into play. I am 5'11" and 165 pounds and my nylon Uncle Mike is invisible in my jeans pocket. With my leather pocket holsters it bulks it out enough where you DO NOTICE it.

Shoot through the holster. Larry

I tried the desantis Nemesis but found it to a bit too bulky, it still serves in the inside pocket of my bike jacket.

I bought the Mika round cut and have been completely satisfied with it. I see no need to try anything else.

Just do what I do and buy a dozen before deciding eight of them are worthless and the other four aren't that great either. Stay away from the cheap stuff as it is a waste of time and money. Enjoy the journey.

I have a Safariland holster. It has a thin layer rough out leather(cow hide?) on the outside, and a sort of patent leather on the inside (which may be synthetic). They seem to be sewn over a plastic molded piece. It conforms to the shape of the gun on the inner side but is smooth on the outer side. The gun pulls freely all the time and reholsters in the pocket easily. It never comes out of the pocket when I draw.

I think the plastic inner layer (if that is what it is) is an advantage. It has not shown any inclination to conform to the shape of the gun (doing so would increase the resistance to being withdrawn from the holster).

I am happy with this. It was available from stock--no waiting. And about $25.00 delivered.

Mika holsters at just top notch. I've dealt with Robert for several years now and there isn't a friendlier, more accommodating seller out there. His holsters just plain work. The Mika holster never hugs or sticks to the gun, when you draw, all you get is your gun. The holster always stays in the pocket.

This is a timely thread for me. My "Okie" holster is getting worn out and l've been wanting to do something different. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread and to the posters for sharing their experiences.

Blessings,
Hog

I understand that others will disagree, but both pocket holsters I've tried will NOT allow me to grip the gun for a proper, quick draw from the pocket. A great advantage of pocket carry is that you can have the firearm gripped and ready to draw without raising suspicion. But you (or as least I) can't grip it correctly in a holster --- try it yourself, you'll end up re-gripping; trying to get the handgun out of the pocket. Now ----- try it without the holster.

I've pocket carried for decades. Never had the gun "turn" in my pocket. Never had lint jam a handgun. Never had the gun imprint itself so that it was easily identified (actually, I did use a handkerchief to break up the outline on exactly ONE pair of dress pants with VERY small pockets).

When I pocket carry, only the gun is in that pocket.

This is the finest pocket holster known to human-kind....and I'm not saying that just cuzz I made it:D

black hawk # 3 for 638-3

Carry in front jeans pocket, coat pocket, nice soft nylon, most of time I want both to come out, I would'nt worry if both came out in a emergency, shoot thru the holster if necessary. What load to use? Shooting thru holster and clothes. Good Question for the experts. I currently have Hornby 38 spec 110 grftx critical defense. My Don Hume h 715 mno 3-2" W/clip works great covered by shirt or jacket, a little stiff for jeans pocket.

Kramer for me.

I don't know if the other holsters metioned allow you to re-holster one handed. The Kramer does, and it stays put when you draw.
