Pocket Carry

i like them all wish i had adifferent gun for everyday of the month!

642 in a Mika

I was carrying a 640 in an Uncle Mike's, but the holster got to the point where the bottom was folding and the pistol rotating in my pocket. I got a Mika (quality product at a reasonable price.) I also just picked up a 642 (no lock) and have put the 640 to rest for the summer.) I don't have any problem with the cylinder printing in the pocket. Whatever you do, invest in the Crimson Trace grips. It's amazing what an affect it has on someone if you tell them that if they don't go away, the red dot on their chest will be replaced by another red dot consisting of the blood draining out of them. Works everytime!

642s and 442s are great. But, for only 4 oz more, I prefer the steel Model 36 (19 oz). I carry in the front pocket in a WRB or DeSantis pocket holster. I also have a Model 60 (22 oz) that I carry. I also have a Galco IWB tuck-n-go that fits either. You'll definitely want wood grips for pocket carry.

What does that extra 4 oz. get you? Other than 4 oz. more in your pocket, which isn't a good thing.

442 works fine for me in pocket carry mode.
I did ditch the rubber grip, though.
If I'm wearing a coat, its in an outside pocket.
Or, baggy trousers, front pocket in a pocket holster works for me.
Loaded with Federal Nyclad "chief's load".

A "semi-twin" to my 642, including the magna diamond grips and the Tyler t-grip (although my Tyler is brushed aluminum, of course). ;)

I have carried my 642 in a pocket holster for the past 5 years. I bought a M&P Shield about a month ago and it has replaced the 642 as my daily carry gun. I carry it in a Blackhawk pocket holster, fits great in my summer shorts. It also fits nicely in my Crossbreed SuperTuck IWB. 9 rounds of 9mm are a bit better than 5 rounds of .38 Spl.

Just my preference perhaps; but that extra 4oz (between the 36 and 642/442) gets you what I call "the real steel deal". A gun made of steel, that, IMHO absorbes recoil better. OH; and you get a usable hammer for SA, no IL, forged...blah blah blah You get the idea.

YMMV...

I have more problem with it's length then width. It fits in my pockets, but some of my jeans it just barely fits. While it fits, I wish a few of my jeans had deeper pockets.

Modify the pocket(s) in which you carry your revolver. Make them deeper. It helps to have someone in the family who has more than a passing familiarity with a sewing machine...:D

My mother-in-law has made many a thing for us over the years. Today I can add deeper pockets to the roman shades, valences, et al.

One extra inch of pocket makes all the difference.

What I get

What does that extra 4 oz. get you? Other than 4 oz. more in your pocket, which isn't a good thing.

What I get with a bobbed hammer Model 60 (4 ounces heavier than a 642 or 442) is a gun I can practice with more comfortably. Which means I shoot it a lot more than I did the 642 I traded even for it. Never cared to practice much with the 642 - it put the hurt on my hand.

So I figure what I get is more ability to hit with the gun if I ever have to use it for its intended purpose.

You'll get used to carrying the extra 4 ounces - and once you do you'll never think about the extra weight again.

Hello, I have been carrying a 637 in my pocket for years and do not have as much trouble with the hammer as one might think(although I think am going to bob the hammer this summer); also I have had no problems with the finish. I also have a 442, but carry the 637 99% of the time.
Cheers, Brian

Also want to add, I am not a big guy at all and the cylinder has not been a problem. Carry’s very nice in my pocket.
Cheers

My 642 carries wonderfully.

While I would have liked to have a 637 or 638 in case I felt like fooling around on the range with it, for the intended purpose the 642 is definitely the better choice.

Get a Desantis Superfly holster! Much, much better than the Uncle Mike's.
I carry a 442 and shoot it at the Range. With a little practice you should be able to keep a decent group on a paper plate out to 30 Feet or more. I ware Bifocals so it's a little hard to shoot too far. I carry the 442 as back up and if some one is that far away, I'm going to be getting the heck out of there and seeking cover.

The 642 shoots just fine - its DA is quite reasonable.

While I do the great majority of all my shooting in DA, it would be nice to have the option when screwing around on the range. Again, though, for its intended use it just doesn't make sense to go with any other hammer choice.

I've pocket-carried a 49 for years, and a 442 before that; I didn't notice the weight difference. I switched for the SA capability.
As for trousers, I check to see how well my CCW fits into the pockets when trying them on. I avoid tight pants; besides printing, they are not comfortable to me.

Seecamp .380 is my number one carry. In a J Frame I prefer an MP 340 at 13.3 ounces with CT grips in a Mika Roundcut.
