cs9 vs cs9d

Hi all,
I am looking to pick up a chief's special 9mm and wanted to get your opinion on the subject - are there pros/cons to them? much difference? also, how many of the cs9d's were actually made? were there less of them?

I believe the cs9d is double action only and the regular cs9 is double action / single action. Seems like lately these are getting harder and harder to find and those that are fortunate enough to have them really like them.

yeah, that's my impression of them. I'm really interested in picking one up for ccw, and I'm leaning towards the cs9d just for the consistancy in the trigger. I feel like I read somewhere that the DAO trigger on it is a really long one though (like 10 lb trigger pull?) and wanted to get some imput on it if possible.

I have a CS9D. To sound like I'm back in High School talking to a girlfriend. I "love" it, but, I'm not "in love" with it. The trigger pull is long, but not too bad (reminds me of the first pull on my 915). I have never shot a TDA CS9, but if I find one at a good price (or CS40/CS45), I will be getting out the plastic and snatching it up as fast as I can fill out the 4473 form.

I recently purchased a CS9D and have put 50 rounds thru it. The trigger pull is at least 10lbs (the guage I had only went to 10lbs and it had further to go). With that said I found it to be a pleasure to shoot, feels great in the hand (I like the Hogue grips), points very naturally, and the consistent double action pull was not a problem at all. I like it alot. Also, no safety/decock levers makes for a thinner, cleaner looking package.

I have a CS9D. When I bought it, I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. However, I most often pick up my 3953 or 3913NL when CCW. They are thinner and more "graceful".

It is hard to explain.

Same here. I am always pleasantly surprised how accurate it is for such a small package. My CS9 is a keeper.

It would probably be the last gun I'd get rid of.

For conceal carry....I chose the almost leverless D.

I peppered it to my taste. Trigger could be improved sith some polishing here and there but this ain't no 25yd target gun....like a flat revolver.

If you notice....the grip contour does not match the blocky contour of the back of the frame....hand web area. While I can see it and feel it....it does not bother me while shooting ninas. My goal was to recontour the frame to reduce the blocky look....but then the added expense of re anodizing....so I have left it alone.

I do plan to polish the trigger internals to smooth up the pull...again not bad and quite accurate for a small package. If the long pull DAO pull is not your fancy....go with the regular cs9.

This was my 2nd SW DAO.....and got rid of the first one in favor of the compact size.

Excellent description. Once I found the DAO 3rd Gens I proceeded to sell off all but one of my DA/SA 3rd Gens. I like them better because they are more like my revolver triggers. Haven't lucked into a CS9D yet, but I was able to find a CS45D. I like my 3953, but I think I'd prefer the CS9D.

One other question - if I got one that had the ambidextrous safety, is it possible to remove the right safety? Are there parts for it still being made? Thanks!!

The ambi decocker body (ejection side) will extend for the provisions the hold the ambi lever.

I have seen when these lever provision have been filed off, however there will be an unsightly hole left behind.

Hold out and get what you want.....finding a replacement single side may result in the part not safely working in your gun.

CS9

I have the CS9 DA/SA model. It is a pleasure to shoot. Very comfortable, very accurate, very reliable. I liked it so much that I just purchased a 3913NL, and also just traded for a CS45. The Smith Gen 3 pistols are now my favorites.

thanks everyone for the replies!! I'm learning a lot! found a 3953 lnib that i have to pick up so i think my search for a cs9/cs9d will have to wait a little while longer while i recoup the funds! still will keep my eye out for one though! they seem like such awesome little guns! stumbled across a cs40 in box with mags at a recent gun show and i'm hooked on 3rd gen s&ws!
