Joe-Pa Has Died

I'm from PA and I never liked the school, the team, or the head coach. He was as guilty as sin in the child molestation case and he took alot of information to his grave with him. God may forgive him but........!

IMO, the Penn State Board of Regents were (and are) gutless to have fired him after he announced he was retiring this year...

I'm sure they did so for legal reasons, as a measure of protection for the university, not out of concern for the children.

Good riddance, you ***. Here's to hoping your precious football program dies with you.

The man died today and you'll piss on his corpse with no conclusive adjudicated evidence. Bravo! Just Proved Yourselves!!!!

This just needed repeating one more time...

And a 3rd, 4th, and 5th time...that is the kind life philosophy that all too many of those in power overlook today. And probably since the dawn of man.

But daaang you guys really feel that much hatred for the man even now that he has just died?? I also have not gone very far into the information that has come out since the beginning of this scandal...but still as far as i know this man has done a lot of good for countless numbers of college athletes, and been one of the few who have pushed in a direction that brings respect to college athletics and not gone the factory route.

Of course if he actually knew and was sure about child molestation going on then i guess i can understand your views...did he though?? Repeat: i am have know detailed knowledge of what came out in the investigation.

But i have a hard time believing he actually felt in his heart and mind that he was willing to let that go on just to help his fball program. I am confused about why sandusky was allowed to stay on that long even it was just repeated speculation... Still, RIP Joe Paterno. Our judgement is meaningless anyways in the end.

My understanding is Joe Pa passed the information supplied to him by the graduate-assistant up his chain of command. He also passed along his concern and stated he didn't know how to handle this situation himself.

From the evidence that has come out so far, Joe Pa did not witness any of this himself. He was head coach not the Univ President, or the Athletic Director. Use of University property wasn't his to give or deny, not his job. And he also wasn't guilty of "doing nothing", he did do something, he followed his chain of command.

As this investigation continues, more evidence may come to light, but in my mind we lost a great man today.

RIP

My understanding and thoughts exactly. Thank you m1gunner

Joe Pa came from a generation where these things just did not happen...they really did but they were swept under the rug and generally not talked about. He probably reluctantly did what he thought was best. It obviously wasn't enough and in the end tarnished a great career. The scandal didn't kill him. He was already sick and wouldn't have been back next year anyway. He wasn't in control of the program for the last few years, much as the "Bear" wasn't. They were just figureheads still kept around so their programs could set records in their names and in turn elevate the programs of the schools they represented. That said, if they got together now for a game, who would their players be and who would win the big one?

IMO, just saying you passed it up the chain of command does NOT wash your hands of a situation. We are talking about the innocence and lives of children here. If he thought something was going on he should not have stopped until there was a full blown investigation, and he shouldn't have let Sandusky to stay in a position to continue his misdeeds.

For anyone to comment on this they NEED to read the Grand Jury Report. Sandusky was dragging these "chosen" children to team functions, including AWAY games, Bowl Games. EVERYONE knew that wasn't normal.
It's a terrible situation and I'm sure it hastened his passing.

I wish he could have been around long enough for the truth to come out. Whatever that is.

No need to cry for poor old Joe Pa. The last time a man of his caliber died He rose from the dead three days later.

Oh wait, Joe Pa was just a football coach, not a deity so let's stop treating him like one.

America is a bare minimum society and when it came to dealing with the Sandusky situation Joe Pa did exactly that - the bare minimum to cover his *** legally. Some role model.

Not sure if this was directed at my comment about the program but I'm repsonding because you posted just below mine. I don't know what the guy knew. However, I do know the program needs to suffer real sanctions because of this.

Of course, football is a religion, so I'm sure things'll be back to "normal" soon if they aren't already.

You don't like reading what I have to say about your cherished hero, just look the other way.

You know, sorta like you're so-called hero did. Except he wasn't pretending to not read something he didn't like, he was pretending to not see a pedophile using his football facilities to rape children. Gee, what a "great man"!

its crazy....ans what a shame to end his legacy in such a way. nonetheless, just before the whole scandal went down I was sitting talking to my dad about Joe Paterno and his longevity and when he started coaching etc. We were both just admiring the guy's history. I said, to my dad, "he's not Joe Paterno, he's Joe Eterno!" we had a laugh and he said you should make some tshirts up to sell to alumni....a day or two later I did this design, and literally a couple days later the whole scandal with Penn hit the news...and Paterno was promptly let go. Needless to say, it didn't seem appropriate after that.

May he RIP. Despite what happened he should always be remembered as the eternal Joe Paterno that coached a football legacy that no coach will probably ever accomplish in the future. He was amazing.

I couldn't tell you three syllables about his sports career, as I place utterly no significance on college or professional sports.

Now engaging in a coverup of child molestation, THAT'S important.

To me, the man had two types of accomplishments, trivial and odious. The latter is what I'll remember.

What is REALLY amazing is the people here who feel if you win games it's OK to conceal child rape.
