My M-28-2

A couple of weeks ago I was checking out the local GS on the way home. I saw a Model 28-2, 4" there, it looked in great condition.
I wasn't planning on making a gun purchase so I didn't handle it.
I drove a couple of miles down the road thinking about it and decided to go back and check it out.
I told myself that if it wasn't perfect I wouldn't buy it...
When I was in my teens, 40+ years ago, my friends father had a 4" 28, and that was the first hand gun I ever handled... It was so cool looking!
When I got back to the GS and checked it out it was in mint condition, box & papers, it has target grips on it but original magnas were in the box with matching ser. # and the gun appears to be unfired. Ser. No.: N2XXX I think it was made in 1969
It also has a butter smooth trigger. Its mine now!
I bought it for $499.95, Sorry no pics yet.

You guys have all the luck finding 4 in 28s!!I n my neck of the woods I was lucky to find the 28-2 6in. At least the cond was mint! Iwant a 4 in.I think the 4 in just points and feels naturel in the hand!I have a 4in GP100 it shoots very well. It feels so good in my hands. The 28-2 feels just as good! I think the half lug is why.the 686 with its 6in feels heavy.Thats how iI felt about the 28 until I got the 686.

B Dog, from the sounds of your post, you got a GREAT DEAL!!! I just bought a 28 no dash 6", very clean, for $450. (no box or papers, but don't care) Let everybody know how she shoots! Welcome to The Forum! Bob

I had to post this, couldn't miss out on the ultimate

This 28-2 is back today from the Springfield, MA beauty parlor (S&W). I know that they weren't shipped with a presentation case, but after the upgrades, TS/TT/TH/RR/W/O, don't you think it deserves one? It also has a new Galco Phoenix holster waiting for a trip to the range. Presentation case supported by a MAG-NUM case rack.

Note: The finish is original. I bought it from a forum member who said that it had been fired 12 times. The metal has been polished with Renaissance Wax. The stocks are polished with Minwax Dark Pastewax, as well as the case.

In an all business kinda way. I like 'em more than their 'pretty boy' brother (:D), the Model 27.

(N)952xxx? Sounds like a transition between the -2 and -3. Recessed cylinder but the barrel isn't pinned?

You are correct. It's not pinned. Still a beauty, though.

Here's mine, I just picked it up today. DOB is 1960-1961. Beautiful revolver just a faint turn line. The original grips left town but the replacements aren't too hard to look at. Here is the SN for the data base: S 214170

Happy to finally post another one - I have another one (pre 28) somewhere in the 90+ pages.
Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman 6" on Monday, complete w/ original box & tools. Almost NIB w/ barely a turn ring. I think these are the quintisential revolvers.
Serial number N5041XX puts it 1978-1980.

joined due to this thread

In the 1970s inherited this Highway Patrolman.
I want to sell it. So have been doing research on it.

So I am wondering if this is that rare 28-1

It has 6" barrel. rod screw opens left side. Marked s1 28
Has srew in front of trigger guard. So 4 screw.
Serial number s 1908xx. Not sure if 1958-1959. Other sites say 1960-1961

Wondering value and best website to sell it on.

Thanks
