got the new m&p-22 (320.00+tax)cleaned it and took it out with some cci ammo, shot ok about 4" at 25yds from a bench. i really like the triger and the way it feels, put 100 rounds and h through it and had 5 FTF, then tried some winchester''333'' box ammo and had quit a few FTF, than i tried the federal (wally-mart)ammo and althrough not as bad as the winchester ammo still had the FTF problem. in all i put about 350 rounds through it. it seems to me that the mag spring is weak and not pushing the round up fast enough. going to get a new mag and see if that helps any. i really like the gun just not real happy with the FTF problem.

Sorry to hear that kenjen. I've put close to 1000 though my m&p 22 and have had 1 FTF. Been shooting CCI mini-mags.

no i did not, i was hopping that i don't have to use only cci's because i have like over 5000 federals on hand. i'm going to take it out again after i clean it and see how it goes after i put 500 rounds through it, if i still have this problem then i'll call S&W.
You should shoot some quality 22 ammo (mini Mags would be my choice) to see if the problem is with the gun or the ammunition. Mine runs well. If the Mini Mags run well, then you can assume it is the ammo. Once you know that, then you can shoot up your ammo and just tolerate the malfunctions. I've found you get what you pay for with 22 ammo.
i have shot this federal ammo in 4 different semi's with no problems. and i don't want to have to buy cci's just for this gun, it is a cheap gun and it should shoot cheap ammo. my ruger mark2 will eat anything i feed it. my 422 will shoot this ammo all day long. like i said i hope it is only a mag or a break in problem.

It could get better if the recoil spring loses a bit of its strength. Mine does what yours does. I have a RIA 1911 with a Kimber rimfire kit on it. It runs 100% with CCI Blazer. I too tried Federal bulk in my M&P22 and I got 2 FTFs. I will continue to use up the box I have, but I will probably switch to Blazer after I use it up.

Check the barrel feed ramp very carefully after thoroughly cleaning it.
I was getting several FTFs until I noticed two tiny black dots on the ramp. I used a dremel and polished them off. I figured they were some errant bluing since solvents didn't remove them.
Since the ramp was polished, I have put through 1500 rounds without a single FTF and I've tried CCI mini mags, Walmart Federal 550 bulk and Federal 525 bulk.

You got a good price on it. Mine was $370.
On Sunday I took mine out for the first time and went through 500-700 rounds trouble free. First I went through two mags of mini mags, blazer bulk, federal bulk, and american eagle. After that I finished the 375rd box of federal and got about half way through the box of Blazer. The only problem I had was when forcefully inserting the magazine during slide lock the top round would pop out of the feed ramps a bit which stove piped when I released the slide.
Hopefully you can figure out why yours isn't working. Before shooting mine all I did was whipe off the factory oil/grease and put a few drops of Hoppes gun oil on it. I also dry fired it ~100 times which smoothed out the trigger quite a bit.

AndrewS, did you have a snap cap in place for those dry fires? From everything I've read it's not a good idea to dry fire rim fires as it may damage the firing pin with no soft brass to cushion the strike.
Not sure if it would take 10 or 1000 dry fires, S&W customer support advises against it.

Out of ~300 rounds mixing them all up, I had only 1 failure to fire but three failures to lock the slide back after the last round. That was fixed by the hard cleaning of the guts.The slide catch was hanging up and never bit all the way into the slide.
I love this thing and I am currently in the gubmint tax stamp thing for a Gemtech suppressor to throw on it. Should be a lot of fun but it looks like the gubmint will take their good, old time processing things.

Sure didn't. I just skimmed through the user manual and didn't see anything about not dry firing.

It is in the owners manual stating not to dry fire it.No .22 should be dry fired.

Pg 24 in red. Also, this forum has several threads in which very experienced members (of whom I am not one) advise against it. I'd hate to see you experience any problems with such a sweet little weapon.
I broke mine in with 200 rounds of mini-mags and the rest has been a mix of federal bulk, CCI blazer, winchester, federal lightning, etc. No fte's or FTF's to speak of. Love this pistol, best .22 pistol I've ever owned and I've owned a few!

Please, this blanket statement is not correct. Many 22's are fine to dry fire. Check the manual. For example, my M&P15/22 manual states that dryfire is ok. Same on my Ruger 10/22.

the problem is the slide will not pick up the next round from the mag on returning forward, i have to pull the slide back to get to pick up the next round, and it's like dry firing, how long until my firing pin breaks doing this? going to call smith & wesson and see what they say. i was always taught that dry-firing any 22 is a NO-NO.....called up s&w and they want me to send it back and if it is a mag problem it will take some time before i get back because of a back log on new mags.

Sounds like the ammo is too weak to properly operate the gun, not sending the slide back far enough to pick up the next round. I doubt the mag has anything to do with it. Once the gun gets broken in it may work with the cheap ammo, maybe not. If not, you will just have to accept the occasional malfunction or shoot the cheap ammo in your other guns.
