...These Pach's make my butt look too big??
Just picked up this Model 10-5, and suddenly realised....
I have no leather for it.
I have no speed loaders for it.
and, I certainly have no spare k Magnas for it.
My first k-frame, and the expenses are adding up already.
I'll bet I'm not the first to suddenly wake up.
I knew I didn't have a single Mod 10, probably one of the most widely used revolvers of all time, and the price was right.
Serial # D 651 7xx, looks like 1973-74. TACC1

Nice looking 10. I have no fixed sight guns at this time and the
model 10 will be my first, when i find one thats in good shape like
yours. Now to find one at a good price.
I'd love to get a nice 547 but they are so high priced.
The purchase of the firearm is the easy part. Then the fun begins
buying all the other goodies.

Same thing I tell my wife..."It's not the Pach's."

I can't turn around that I don't trip over a decent M&P/Model 10. The problem I have is not bringing them all home. There is ALWAYS something different about them.

To the OP. Nice one you got there.
 
Pachmeyer grips are very popular, however they do have a steel plate inside the rubber to stiffen them. On two separate occasions I have had the steel plates wear through the rubber and scratch the heck out of the bluing. This happened on a Colt 1911 and on a N frame S&W.

Personally, if you prefer the rubber type grips over wood, I would switch to Uncle Mikes. The Uncle Mikes grips do not use the steel inside and will never damage your gun. Just my .02 cents.........

Thanks for the kind words, but I got lucky, as the auction pics didn't do
justice to the condition. It feels strange to hold a gun this big.
I couldn't get in off the highway before dark, yesterday, but I have hopes for today, and wads and bunches of ammo. If it shoots as good as it looks, it'll be big-grin time. TACC1
 
Congrats on the deal TACCI. It's the quintessential S&W revolver and served a lot of cops well for many decades.
They are definetely great shooters.:cool:
 
You'll like it. Any way is a great way to start with K-frames, Model 10s included. I prefer the one you have with the tapered barrel, but the HB models are certainly more gentle to shoot, and you recover with them a lot quicker, if rapid-fire is of any interest to you.

I am not averse of Pachmayr stocks (prefer the older "presentation" model to the "gripper" you have on your gun) but on a Model 10 like yours I have always preferred magnas and T-grip. If you are just shooting aimed fire and not shooting particularly heavy loads, you may find you don't even need the T-grip.
 
Went to the Range Today

Windy as all get-out, so my target stand was useless. I had some
wadcutters, and ran some rounds thru for function test and POA.
All you folks who've been shooting k-frames right along know
how sweet the trigger is in DA & SA. What a sweet experience!
POA was right on the money at 25 yards, too. I'll run some
158-grn thru it next time (tomorrow?). Wish it had been a round-butt,
but I'll struggle along somehow. What a great day! TACC1
 
No gun collection is complete without at least one model 10 and at least one 1911. Two must haves!
 
That's a really nice Model 10.:D The action on these broken-in K frames is great I have a set of Hogues, Uncle Mike's and a set of Pach's for K frames. They are all very nice grips for shooting... not for styling. I can't say anything bad about any of them. But you can pick up a set of K frame Magna's or Target's here on the forum or a gun show for a decent price.
 
No, that's a nice butt! You can't get into serious trouble asking that about a gun. ( some of you know what I mean) My 10-8 Aussie turn -in wears C.T. 207's, that look kinda of big, but feel good, and are functional. Bob
