M&P Shield review (Single stack 9mm)

The review sites a new feeling trigger. I wonder if there is some kind of parts interchange for making the rest of them feel that way. Or will there soon be a serious mod to the rest...?

Awesome!!! I will try to get one by the end of the year. Right now I'm having a hard enough time explaining to the wife why I need a full sized M&P40

Getting one as well... just need to find out who will be the first to sell it under msrp... :D Hot new gun, doubt there will do that with the first batch.

I think it looks pretty good, about time they release something to compete with the pocket pistols everyone is churning out these days.
I would like to see how the 40 handles.

Do these qualify for the M&P $50 rebate?? If so it's still a good price for a brand-spanking new gun.

What a nice little gun. Just might be what I'm looking for in a CCW.

Product: Smith & Wesson M&P SHIELD

Here's all the specifics. I'm glad they kept the 6.5 +/- trigger pull. I will own one of these.

Caliber: 9mm
Capacity: 6+1, 7+1 (magazine with grip extension)
Operation: Trigger cocking DAO; lock breech; "Browning - type" recoil lug; passive striker block; no magazine disconnect
Barrel: 3.1", polygonal rifling; 1 - 10 right-hand twist
Length O/A: 5.42"
Height: 4.0"
Slide Width: .90"
Weight: Pistol 14 ounces, Magazine 1.9 ounces
Grips: Textured polymer
Sights: Drift adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights
Finish: Black polymer frame, matte stainless steel slide
Magazines: 1 each: 6 rd flush floorplate & 7 rd extended grip

Every company is coming out with their version of a single stack 9mm pocket gun. Every one is larger than the Kahr PM9. In Smith's case, the Shield is .68 inches longer, .05 inches thicker, .6 inches higher, and 3.1 ounces heavier. As much as I like Smith (3913 Ladysmith, 17-4, 442 no lock, 649-3, 36 no dash) I will stick with my PM-9, smaller, lighter and goes bang every time I have pulled the trigger (approx 800 rounds). :(

Same here. I'm a big guy who wears loose pants and in my experience my 4" high Kahr is the 'highest' pocket gun I can carry without printing and snagging the draw. And if I'm going to carry on my belt I'm going to carry something a lot more substantial. I'm sure this'll be a great gun for others, though.

So is that a real rail or just made to look like one for some reason?

I can just get my PM9 in a back pocket holster if I wear cargo pants or painter's jeans. That extra .5 inch makes a BIG difference! That's why I spent the extra money for the PM9 - also installed XS Big Dot sights - love em.

I have a CM9 that is pocketable w/ a 4 inch height.

I would have loved to see this one with one less bullet and a 4 inch height.

One major thing that i dont like the kahr because double tap shooting is not really possible with the long trigger and reset

From the video, the shield must have a very short reset... Which is what i want
