Sick Of Kimber

Its a number game as many pointed out. And if Kimber wasn't buying those pages, it would just be someone else. they are ads! Know this, the standard or default percentage of ads to articles is very cut and dry. A magazine will not stay in business very long unless they reach that magic percentage which is roughly 60% ads and 40% content/articles...and goes even higher in some cases. That is why new rags that come out seem thin and article driven...before too long, if they are a read magazine, you will find they become thicker, and are laden with ads...its a business and that quota of ads has to be met or its die.

Ads keep a magazine alive...its not subscriptions, its certainly not articles..without ads, they have costs that far outweigh income. Subscriptions need to be in the hundreds of thousands as well.

I'm also tired of seeing Viagra ads in every issue of my "Impedance weekly."

Cancel that sub and get "Reactance Monthly" instead. Sure it's just another phase, but much more capacity for inductance. Way less Viagra ads too - NO Kimber ads either ;)

Damn spell check..I wanted impotence and it corrected it to impedance!!! Guess I should say Impotency weekly!

BTSW, I'd go back and edit my original post, but that would make your post seem weird...so I'l take the bullet...:)

You're not going to convince me that Kimber sells more guns than S&W, but I don't see every ad page monopolized by S&W.
Duke,
Smith & Wesson does indeed sell more pistols in the category of "over 9mm to .50 Cal. However S&W's numbers include dozens of non 1911 models where Kimbers 80,000 piece production of pistols is all 1911. Here is a link to the ATF numbers so you can see for yourself:

Have a good day!

ps. I only gave you a round count on my Kimber as evidence of why they might be popular. I didn't suggest others were less so, I'm sure there are better pistols out there, but apparently alot of guys think the value of a Kimber is there or they wouldn't be #1 in 1911. Just saying.
I did say guns, not 1911's.
And again, I never said Kimber didn't make good guns. People seem to be having a hard time grasping that last part.

Lefty,
No problem with the one in north Georgia- we got shotguns.
It's a lot dimmer now.
:D

Lee;

We were wondering why our replacement bulb costs keep going up every week at the north Georgia location? Guess we'll have to increase prices on the holsters to pay for 'em or move to a better class of neighborhood.

Cheers;
Lefty

To my knowledge Kimber uses S&W parts...?!
But I could be wrong...
Im not sure that's right. As I understand it, Kimber stopped using external extractors because they couldn't get it right while Smith and Wesson pretty much mastered them.

Another couple of Kimbers

My wife and I both have Kimber pistols. Hers a CDP, and mine an Ultra Carry. We've had hers for about 14 years or so, and mine at least 10 or 11. They've both been problem free, and are very accurate. That there's also SIGs and S&W pistols in the safe that are well appreciated, too. I carry my Ultra Carry, my SIG P6, and my S&W 3913 more than any of the other guns I have access to. I think the wife and her CDP could probably match me and my 625 at the range, using the same ammo - at least out to 15 yds. I'm thinking about a smaller CCW 9MM. I'll likely look at the Shield - but then again the Kimber Solo looks pretty good, too. Different materials and pricing? Sure, each has its own points. Guess that's what makes this discussion interesting.

I'm pretty sure S&W used to make the frames and slides but that was a long time ago. I doubt I will ever buy any more 1911's (I have 3 Kimbers)but if I wanted one I would start by looking at S&W if they are less expensive.

My pro series sub compact cost $1000 so I imagine the standard models would be less.
