Getting a factory tour

I am excited next week the Lovely Miss Peggy has the Heart Rythem society Conference in Boston. I am going to rent a car and go to the factory. Its work for her and that time is a busy time I would really like if she could go but she has prioritys

I contacted S&W and got on a factory tour I am quite sure a bunch of those on the Forum have done that
Any words of wisdom? Any think thats a just dont miss?
I will also visit the Museum

My wife and I went on the factory tour a few years ago. It's a great tour and hopefully you will have a group that is interested in S&W's and not just wanting to kill some time.
The museum is good too, it's located inside the factory. We had a great time and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Wear good walking shoes. It's a long walk. The shooting sports center/factory store is closed for now.
If you have time, the Springfield Armory Museum is also in the city, and it's maybe even more interesting than the S&W tour. It's a National Park on the site of one of the first federal armories, where they built everything from early muskets to the M14. Thousands of guns on display and great exhibits on U.S. military gun manufacturing.

Went on a tour w/a shooting buddy a few years ago. Called S&W a week beforehand and found out 6+ people were needed for a tour, was just him and I. Asked the man on the other end of the phone if he could just tack us on to an already scheduled tour. His response was we might not like that, on the particular day it was a group of Cub Scouts!!
Actually turned out great, kids were fine and on a tight time schedule so the tour was very brief. The guide, a retired production worker, told my buddy and I to sit tight while he dismissed the scouts. He returned to the 2 of us and told us we'd now get a "real tour". We went all over, the guide spent a lot of time catching up w/the workers while the two of us just looked at everything, wide eyed and open mouthed. It was GREAT!!

You can't bring anything in from the Guard Shack. That's where you start the tour. Besides, the guide can't receive anything in return. If any of you have the time, the new Springfield History Museum located behind the Library off State Street is fantastic. Alot of Smith & Wessons on display along with Indian Motorcycles. Well worth the time.

I took a tour of the factory back in 2003 and it was unbelievably awesome. I may be going to Springfield for a day next month and tried to find info on tours, and got nowhere. I called S&W and the operator told me she thought that tours were no longer offered.

Anybody have any insight on this?

Sad, but true. No more tours. Go to the Wood Museum of Springfield History.
Amazing collection of everything Springfield. There is a large Smith & Wesson display upstairs.
