So I just got my new Shield and need a holster. I will be carrying this while working too; very hot and sweating. My thought is to get a straight kydex holster due to the fact its impervious to sweat.

I have a Comp Tac MTAC for my other carry gun but I want to stay away from that big leather piece riding against my hip while out in the sun all day some days of the week. Just too hot in my opinion and I want to "scale it down" a little.

Im new to this site but have seen some guys on here post about one called a pjholster. Ive seen the Raven concealment holsters too but even that looks a little too big for what Im looking for due to the "square shape" with all the little holes around the edge.

I was looking on Comp Tac's sight and see they have several for the Shield. I just need some advice for those that have more experience with different holsters. I have only had one carry gun and have only had one holster for it and they both have been great. The main reason for getting the sghield was for summer carry and to kind of scale down for the next few months.

Here are 3 that I have looked at. Could anyone weigh in with opinions or pros and cons?

As far as the pjholster and the Infidel from Comp Tac; is ONE clip enough to hold the shield with out having to readjust? That's my only concern. I do like the CTAC because it lacks the big leather backing, it is kydex and has multiple clip options. If I am going to be bending would the 2 clip one be more beneficial due to a little extra "give"?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Steak! Good to see that you made it over here!
Lots of good Shield info here (naturally) :)

Well a few of points.

1) You might want to consider including the gun model in the thread heading. Some people only read certain postings.

2) The shield is relatively new and many of us new Shield owners are also still trying to figure out what holster to use/works well.

3) This isn't exactly a new line of discussion. There are other posts on this board with the same question / line of discussion.

I did like that you included some of the research that you have done. I found that helpful.

I am also looking for a IWB for my new Shield. I may try one of the PJ ones. It does look pretty much like what I'm looking for. This is a very good example of what is wrong with internet shopping. None of my local gun shops carry much for holsters any more because people come in, check them out, determine which one they like, go home log in and buy it on line to save $3 or $4. So now there is no place to try them out in person any more.

I like to pocket carry but if you are real active at work a 24 oz gun bouncing around in your pocket isn't fun.

I like the De Santi holsters. My pocket is the model E1 and it fits perfect.

IWB is a challenge for me because I wear a tucked in dress shirt with no suit coat. Concealment is a challenge. The only time I wear IWB is when I wear sweats and a t shirt with a jacket which again is not real practice in the summer.

The Shield is great unless you are active then the weight makes it a challenge.

Good luck

Russ

Thanks Chebby :D

My main concern is the one clip. I know in the S&W promo vid for the shield they show that guy wearing a holster with one clip but......is it REALLY practical?

Maybe someone will post who wears it IWB with one clip. I just want to make sure its not something that is distributed good enough because I only have experience with a 3.8 XDm with IWB carry.

The PJ seems to look good, simple and affordable. The Comp Tac is very high quality and you obviously pay more.

Yeah I sold an LC9 to get this and never even carried the LC9 as planned in my pocket because I only had it 2 weeks in my possesion due to some issues. So, I have no experience pocket carrying. That's kind iof why Im leaning toward IWB because that's what Im used to.

Just my 2 cents, and I haven't tried a Shield yet, but 24 oz. is a bit much for one clip to support without issues, IMHO.

Yeah thats what Ive been thinking too. Its just that there are several out there with one clip. Specifically that PJHOLSTER that some guys on this site use. The promotional video for the Shield also shows the guy using a one clip style.

Just not sure, Im looking for something all "plastic" like I said in my first post. I have a Comp Tac leather backing/kydex shell but don't want that big leather piece against me when out in 95 degree weather for hours and hours.

so anyone else carrying IWB with a single clip holster? Is the shield too heavy or just right for a one clip holster?

I have a Comp-tac CTAC for my Shield. Comfortable to wear all day. I recommend it.

Yeah that one looks nice. I was thinking of the infidel with the single belt clip. Another member on here PM'd me stating he has the Infidel with the one clip for his shield and it carries nice. I was just a little apprehensive about only having one clip to distribute the weight. I guess the shield is small enough to get away with only having a single support though.

FWIW, I carried a Kahr MK9 in a single belt clip holster (Silent Thunder) and it worked out very well, I love the leather lined kydex.

Thinking about one for my Shield but I kind of want to try something new for some reason, that and last I checked they weren't ready for the Shield yet, (waiting on a blue gun).

Steak .. check with Raven Concealment Systems about the new *Vanguard* holster that is due to come out soon. Seriously, contact them directly as they will gladly work with you.

Considering the VG2 for Glock STILL isn't available, I wouldn't sit around and wait for a Shield VG2 any time soon. They debuted the Glock VG2 at SHOT, did an initial limited pre-order like 3-4 months ago, and they still have not added the VG2 on their site for ordering. Considering the Shield is a new model, they will most likely release the next VG2 variant for a more popular model like the standard M&P.

well, I have made my mind up. Im going with the Comp Tac Infidel. I was ordering and remebered Comp Tac usually has a sale promotion near any holiday. I called to ask and the girl said "I would wait another day if I were you".

I took that as a sale special is coming out.

Anyways, hopefully this holster is nice and works for me because I really want to start carrying this Shield.
