Dry firing

Not sure where to put this post, so considering I've got a 12-2 this is as good a place as any.

I've got two revolvers with hammer-mounted firing pins. I do not like dry firing any gun (grew up w/ 22's) and I'm wondering if a spent cartridge (.38 in this case) can be used for an occasional dry fire test?

You can dry fire a centerfire revolver to your hearts content. On 22LR revolvers or pistols you need spent cartridges or snap caps.
