When have you seen a new gun take the shooting world the way the M&P Shield has. I have been in guns for over 50 years now and don't remimber a gun that was this good or in demand this much.

Ya the shield has made a lot of noise and is in high demand. I cant believe that i cant even get one for sometime, but thats ok ill waite 6 months or so and pay $100 less then what people are paying now. I wonder if we will ever see this again with a different gun?

2009 Ruger SR9c... Gun of the Year (no... I'm not a Ruger Fan). None of the growing pains of the SR9 full-size. It was VERY popular that year and like the Shield, not much in the way of Pre-release Advertising.

I believe the Shield will overshadow it though and be 2012's Gun of the Year. It's only competition might be the new XD-S, but it's too early to say how it will be. :)

Well, the LCP and then the LC9 made quite a hit when they came out...but the LCP was plagued by some early problems, although they seem to be ironed out now. The LC9 is still having some issues, apparently.

S&W definitely did this one right...not only did they have (at least some) ready to buy when it was announced, but the Shield has been extremely reliable. Also, S&W put TWO magazines in the box. There is nothing more frustrating than for a gun maker to announce a new pistol, and then it not even be available to look at, much less buy, for a year or more.

My only "complaint" and it really isn't a complaint, is that I wish S&W had magazines readily available to buy. I'm sure they will, at some point, and I finally got a couple of extra 8 rounders, so now I can wait until more are available.

I would not rely on the price dropping $100 on the Shield. The going rate at most stores that discount is between $399 and $419. I think that gun is a total bargain at that price. S&W could raise the MSRP $50 and still sell everything they make for quite awhile. The XDs is another offering on the small carry category. Down side, only 5+1. The beat goes on.

So far this was a TEXT BOOK EXAMPLE of how to succeed with a corporate project.

The Harvard Business School will probably look into this.

Great Work S&W, enjoy basking in the Glow and the Glory, you deserve all the accolades you're receiving for the Shield.:)

Wholesale price right now is $334.

I've been into guns over 20 years and like the OP I've never seen the like. The only one that is similar is the LCP & like was said it had a few probs & a recall which I was subject to as I got one somewhat early. I really didn't care for shooting it so it was traded in on the Shield & I got a good deal. As for "Gun of the Year" I think so, but as already stated the XDs could spoil the party, but it's got to be Very Good to do so. I like the XDs from what I've seen and would add it to the fold it the mood hits me and it has no probs, only bad thing it's higher, but to Springfield's credit it has 2 mags as well & a nice case & some goodies. Time will tell, but I really like my Shield. :D

I shot the XDs during the NRA convention here in St. Louis. All the Gun ranges had a special to fire some of the guns announced during the NRA convention. The Shield was not part of the special.
Although I liked XDs in .45, I am not a big fan of this caliber in a small handgun.
If you think the Shield is hard to find, try to find an XDs, it is next to impossible.
Last weekend I purchased a Shield in 40S&W at a gun show.
Shot about 50 rounds through it on Sunday.
I love this gun. Only big detraction was the shell ejection. They were bouncing all over the range. Most ejections were almost straight back over my right shoulder.
Amazingly enough, my wife who is not fond of my full sized 9mm, loved the Shield in 40S&W.
The recoil is not that bad.

I believe the XDs is priced about $100 more than the Shield, at this price difference, the Shield is a steal.

Because of all the noise regarding the Shield, I went to a LGS and held one with the hope to come home with it. Well, I have small hands and somehow I don't feel comfortable with it in my hands (I am very comfortable with my Kahr PM9), so last week I ordered the M&P9c. I do like the slim profile and size of the Shield.
