Has anyone here been successful in removing the magazine caution lettering on the slde of their M&P slide and if so how did you do it? Thanks.

I used black electical tape.
Same stuff I used over my high beam light on the dash.

The only "correct" way to get rid of the lawyer lettering would be a refinish job on the slide.

If I had known all the guts are easy to remove and the factory lock hole plug is sold as a part on various web stores then I would have bought the version without the markings.

Exactly. Having gotten my 45 with the safety, I can leave or remove it and not have the lettering.

If you just want the lettering blacked out, or less noticeable, pick up on some black nail polish and do a search for colorizing etchings.

There's a guy who usually does XDs (xd-hs2000), who picked up on a shield and Bead-Blasted it. It makes a great looking Bi-Tone. He was (dunno if he still is) offering a KG Gunkote refinishing special for Shield slides for $30.

Should the mods decide the link is not appropriate, go to the site, click on New Products and then on Smith & Wesson.

I have no affiliation to xd-hs2000, or it's employees, but James does great work.
I believe a few of the members here have had work done by him.

I couldn't find any pictures on the site...did I just overlook them? I'd really like to have my slide done, but I want to see some examples first.

Here is a picture of the right side, and as you can see the stupid warning has been blasted off. The proper way to remove it would be to abrasive blast the slide, I use 80 grit Aluminum Oxide. After you remove the lettering you can the glass bead or refinish depending on what you want your finished product to look like.

The lettering really doesn't bother me, although I admit it does look better without it. My concern is the next owner of the pistol may do something stupid and I get sued because of I "carelessly removed a manufacturer applied safety warning".

Way too many lawyers.

One Option

WLB,
Here are a couple of photos of my M&P 45. My gunsmith tried a little something on the slide, he put it on a surface grinder and took just a little off each side of the slide. I think it came out pretty nice, adds a little bling. He also recut the the muzzle crown to a match crown. The best part of the work is the action, it is amazing, and he does it all with stock parts. No aftermarket parts.

So your the A**H*** who blinds oncoming drivers with their high beams and doesn't respond to flashing! I suppose if it works for your beam indicator you should also try it on your blinker signals.

[rant off] [flame suit on]

So you are the A**H*** who over reacts to statements that most everyone else knows are tongue in cheek!

I have had all my M&Ps sent to Robar for their NP3 finish, my Shield is there now. This removes the warning and is an overall improvement to the pistol in both form and function.

The crown on the .45 looks so much nicer than factory. I don't know why S&W's crowns so often seem to always look rougher than a stucco bathtub.

All I saw was a matter of fact recommendation... a statement with out any indication of being in jest, such as ;) :D :)  or even :p

Sorry, but that comment struck a pet peeve of mine out here where the straightaways are 6 miles long and there seems to be a lot of tape on the dashboards.

Ok, next time I will say I use masking tape instead of black tape and put a smiley thing after the period.
Will that do the trick? Hope so.

That looks nice. How much do they charge?

That'll work...
sorry, I got a little cantankerous too.

now, to all those lifted trucks with the low beams shining in my mirror...

now back on topic...

those slide refinish jobs look really good, how long they take to get back? about a week or two??

Will, It all depends on what you have done. I opt for what they call "The Norton Special" where they NP3 the slide, barrel and all the internal parts in both the slide and frame. Normally this cost $199, but they had a June special for $149.
