Installed Apex sear today and have a question

I installed my new sear with very few problems. The video by Apex was a lot of help but would have been better if they had shown what was going on a little better. The guy demonstrating mostly had his hands covering the reassembly part. Still all went well with one exception. I should caution anyone attempting to do this install to NOT allow any cats to be in the same room with you. Anyway, the install was successful and the trigger pull was lightened to a very noticable extent which is exactly what I wanted. The trigger feels entirely different too though. Seems to be a lot more pretravel. Is this something that is typical? Did those of you who've installed the sear find you had to relearn trigger control on your gun. Overtravel seems almost non existant though. Next week I'm going to send my slide in to have TFO sights installed and they'll install my USB at the same time.

Although the stock trigger is not much different than the other striker fired guns out there, the Apex hard sear did improve it quite a bit. There was no need to "relearn" the trigger since it's much closer to my 1911s now. I also polished up the striker block which also smooths things out quite a bit.

I just did the same thing last week. It was hard for me to really get a feel for the trigger until I went to the range.

The pre travel seems like a lot less and of course too, the pull.

I really like it but I had 2 ADs when acquiring my 2nd shot.
Not up in the air but over the target. So be very aware that the pull is much less.

I just installed the TFOs as well and all I can say is, "WOW".
I walked outside after the sun set, it was overcast and they still jumped with light. When I set it on the nightstand and turned out the light, they were brighter than anything I have ever owned before. Just, "WOW".

Good luck with yours. bet you will love it.

I too, experienced a couple of ADs, or what I would call "bump fires", super-rapid 2 shot bursts. It has me concerned.

There aren't any cats near me, or anywhere nearby my neighborhood, and that's fine by me.

So you don't get the wrong idea, I like cats.

They taste like chicken.
 
Yes, the Apex sear does decrease the amount of overtravel, which increases the first stage. This is noted on one of the Apex clips on YouTube. If you are worried about an AD, put the entire duty kit in which will add some weight to the pull. I've had no trouble with mine w/ the stock springs. A lot will depend on your learned trigger control.

THOSE SIGHTS ARE MY NEW FAVES! I LOVE MINE AND MY NEXT UPGRADE IS THE APEX DCAEK!

My 45c's trigger was heavy and rough enough that I had to do something. I installed the DCAEK and it went from velcro to slicker than snot. I can see how a double or two could happen when you are first getting used to it. The biggest downfall I see so far is that it makes my 9c and 40c feel like they are full of rocks now. Darn the luck with needing more Apex in my life.

Did you install the full DCAEK kit or just the sear?
 
I just order dcaek and ram. After reading several post, sounds like its a great upgrade that I'm looking for.

Understood. The posts about ADs give me pause - Will NOT carry a pistol as my EDC if I can't trust it 100%.

I installed most of the DCAEK in my Shield last week - Could not get the rear sight to budge with my sight pusher so the USB and its spring are still in the package. Went to the range yesterday (Fired 150 rounds) and was pleased with the improvement in the pull weight, the reduction to the over-travel and improved consistency on shot placement. Have not measured the trigger pull weight but is very close to my G17 Gen4 with the dot connector - Around 5.5 lbs.
 
My thought is any AD's would be due to the HUGE difference in the trigger's quality. In mine it was a night and day difference. As soon as I realized this was such a difference it ceased to be an issue. I would suggest adding a drop or two of oil to the rear sight. Let it soak and then try the sight pusher again. Or if you are happy with the change then it may be well enough. I just REALLY like the new feel of the hammer block on how you almost can't feel the thing moving out of the way. Amazing.
 
I will get the USB installed on way or another. I'm going to take another crack at the sight pusher or I'll have it done once I decide on which night sights to install. Still on the fence with the TFOs...
