Until this morning, I didn't realize S&W was no longer producing the Gunsite model. Glad I got mine a few years ago! Here's a photo of my Raven, along side my Lew Horton Colt Night Officer.Gunsite & Night Officer.JPG

About Gunsite®:

Gunsite was founded in 1977 by the late Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper, author, professor and WWII and Korean War combat veteran. Col. Cooper intended Gunsite to be the vehicle for spreading the Modern Technique of the Pistol, which he collated during his years in Big Bear Lake, CA.

Gunsite's operation covers 2000 acres, with modern facilities, large classrooms, a fully-stocked Pro Shop and a full-service gunsmith operation. They have a modern campground with pavilion, laundry facilities, hot showers and hookups for travel trailers and recreational vehicles.

That is a shame. I always wanted one of this model. Maybe they will bring it back - who knows?

Fortunately I did manage to find a full size and commander length 1911 SC in the original stainless finish. Reckon I can be happy with that!

I believe Gunsite still has a few left. I'd check witht them.

I'm glad that I bought mine. I got 100 rounds through mine. Sure is nice. I have moved on to my DW VBOB. Like that better.

I believe that line was dropped for the new E series guns.

What a shame, the Gunsite pistols are very nice. I've had one for a few years and it's been fantastic. I'm very happy I purchased mine. Surprised they'd be ending their relationship with Gunsite. First they end the Night Guard series and now this? Who's running the show over there anyway???

Well, that's my opinion anyway. Get one of those Gunsite pistols while you can they are great carry guns.

I totally agree, as I was lucky enough to get one of the early ones, as I've heard from a couple of sources, that the first 500 were hand done in the Performance Center, before they came out with it as a regular stock model, and I got a serial # XXX 344 something. It is the best 1911 I've owned out of the box, and now I want to purchase one the new E types done by the Performance Center, as they sure do one fine job ! I'll put my current Gunsite into "collection" status as an early retirement one now !
I'm glad to see that they're doing some of the new E's with the Performance Center "warm-up"; my upcoming new EDC.

I hadn't heard the first 500 were hand done. If that's the case I'm extremely happy, I've got #166.

Bought a Gunsight model today. Would love to have more history than listed. We're these issued at Gunsite?

Gunsite Model

I have one of the Hand fitted 1911 Gunsite Models & I love the way it handles & shoots. Once you get use to the recoil it just drops right back on target. A great little gun & I especially like the all black.
The one thing I am looking to change in my old age is the factory sights. I have used them since I have the gun but now I,m having a problem getting a good sight picture with them. I can,t seem to line up the front sight in the back sights. I would like to change them out to one of the newer hi viability orange or yellow sight,s but I don,t know what will fit on a direct swap out. I would appreciate a little help.
