How do you guys afford our gun habit?

I stashed $$ away in my 401k and now its paying off. Look for deals on guns and reloading equipment too. You get discounts by having your FFL03 C&R license too.

BTW; I do not charge on my plastic more than i can pay off each month. I pay my plastic off each month. The 3 kids are grown, two went to college, the house is paid off ect.

Cheapest prices i've found so far is on Buds Police Supply. Glad they offer us LEO/Military prices.Even my LGS couldn't give me a price on a 40c lower than 475.00

Lets see, the wife still works, two pension checks, Social Security, and I work a part time job, no kids at home anymore, and my 401's didn't get totally wasted yet.

I brown bag it fo lunch and quit smoking cigarettes. Between both these measures I would estimate that I've improved my cash position by about 500 bucks a month. Needless to say I've also found it to be a major health benefit, so I've probably extended my "shooting career" by hopefully 10 or 15 years.

Right now i own a Taurus 740 SS Slim and i'm on the list for two Shields.I'm kinda growing impatient and i'm thinking of purchasing a 9c for myself( thanks to Buds Police Supply) instead of a Shield and leave the 9 Shield for my wife. She likes the feel of my 740( she has small hands), but she doesn't like the kick of the .40.I'm really getting the gun bug with getting two more pistols and a shotgun for hd.How do you guys continue to afford not only the gun purchases but the ammo to go along with it.

We use the envelope system.

One envelope is for entertainment. Ammo would be purchased from the cash in that envelope.

For this program to work you can not take from one envelope to fund another.

When one envelope is empty you are done spendiing in that category until next payday. If you have money left in an envelope come payday you just got a raise. Go buy more ammo

The Christmas envelope grows all year until we use it in November.

I have a decent salary but this one goes entirely to my family but for my "gun habit" I have a second job as a bartender and all my tips go to my 2nd Amendment Right. Other thing I have to do for giving me a longer healthy shooting life is what other members did …….quitting smoking!!!!!!.... and use that money in ammo.

I currently don't spend my extra money on anything else,'I'm a tightwad with everything else, I'm currently in residency training, so my name could be DocPoorMan right now, but living cheap and taking up a night job in a club on nights off from the hospital definitely helps, not a lot of free time but I'm trying to buy the weapons, ammo, extra mags, accessories that I desire, it's a choice.

Sir

Not yet, two more years then the first one starts college. She is straight A student, so counting on scholarships. My wife teaches at a community college so if daughter choses that route, it will help out. The unexpected blessing will be starting collefe in 10 years so we have time inbetween to save up again. I teach and work a second job in summer, thus some of that money goes to my gun fund.

You must have no kids to put through college!! :)

College is mostly over rated and young adults can pay their way through college at community college then state university. That's what I did, got me into medical school and now into residency. Had someone been paying my way and giving me money, I probably would have partied those years away.

House is paid for, wife likes shooting and also works full time at a great job. Kids are grown,Grandma likes spoiling the grand kids. I "feed the pig" (loose change goes in my "mad money" bank),that's for spending anyway I want. We both take a NICE allowance each week out of our checks for ourselves (AFTER the bills are paid),and we have a matching emergency fund. She doesn't say anything about how I spend mine and I do the same for her. Life is goooooood.

i'm single so i have to answer to know one,i have no bills, house ,harley, jeep, and truck are paid off,i do buy smart and consider guns an investment as well as fun to collect and shoot.if i don't but aleast one gun a month,i get the shakes, lol.

Even state college is $25K a year now with room and board. I expect my kids to pay as much as they can, but college tuition rates have ridiculously soared so much faster than inflation that even hard working kids can't be expected to be able to fund that much.

While I agree it is overrated, the fact is that in today's job market you need a bachelor's degree at a minimum to compete for most jobs. The earnings of college grads vs. non-college grads are very significant.

I work my *** off 50-60 hours a week, 50 weeks a year....not married, divorced for years, no kids, believe in cash, pay as I go..

My wife is just applying for her medical residency and I am retired military. She is very gun pro so no problem. As an MP, gunner, I was fortunate enough to get to shoot a lot of different firearms and loved it. What a job perk, one of the best in my eyes.

Had one, with my medical problems I've cut my spending and cancelled it. I do most of my business word of mouth anyway. Are you interested in anything in particular?

I'm interested in seeing holsters that you've made.

We buy guns. Period. Heck, I still don't have a .22 magnum.

I worked full time, none of this on campus party garbage. Like I said, start at community college than transfer, that's what I did. No help from mommy & daddy for me and in hindsight I'm better for it.

As far as earnings go, that's a lot of propaganda. Many who enter college don't graduate, those who do, most have useless degrees. Earning good pay is about becoming skilled labor. Plumber's, electricians, heavy equipment operators all make good money because they fill jobs that require a skill. Nurses & X-Ray Techs make good money as well, both 2 year degrees, not bachelors degrees, both will get you much farther financially than a BS in sociology from Podunk U. Sure accounting & engineering BS degrees will bring you places, but again it comes down to becoming skilled.

The student loan bubble is real and it's going to burst in the not so distant future, we have way too many people going to college wasting time and resources. Way too many garbage majors that are offered to maximize the amount of revenue colleges bring in.
