How do you guys afford our gun habit?

Ive been into guns since about 1998, when i was old enough to own a rifle/shotgun. When i turned 21 all systems were go!! I bought stuff that was "cool"factor looking but not always practical or reliable. There was a few years when i kinda lost interest (and missed out in all the cheap ammo im buying now! ). Now when i buy i look at value, need and useability (functional and reliable ) non of my guns are just range toys. And i try not to buy anything for collecting.

Its still not easy especially when you run into deals too good to pass up

i don't understand the question. what habit? this is a necessary part of life.

As long as WalMart sells 9mm Federal 100 round Value Pack for $20, it's not worth the time it would take me to reload. If I shot .40 or .45, it'd probably be worth it though.

Not smoking, as well as not going to bars/clubs frees up a lot of 'next gun' and bullet money. :)

Pay cash or pay forever!!!!!!!!! It really is that simple. I'm 44 years old and owe less than a grand to be DEBT FREE and that is to close-out an auto loan!!! It would be paid off, but I need the loan for at least one year to build credit. I decided I needed/wanted a wheeler and passed on many things to make it happen. A check for 10K tore the Hell out of my savings, but I decided if I needed/wanted it bad enough, I'd pay cash or stay home. It is going to plow my snow this year, so it does have a legitimate purpose....:)

I work on commission and get a quarterly bonus if I meet certain sales levels. Half of the bonus, if I get one, goes straight into savings. My wife is perfectly ok with me spending the rest on my habit! Once I know I am getting a bonus for that quarter, let the games begin!

blujaxo1,

I forgot about smoking, I gave that up in 1998.

I used to have one at least burning ALL THE TIME.

That really helps the shooting budget BIG TIME.

HOW MUCH ARE WINSTON'S NOW ANYWAYS???????

NEW HEALTH PLAN

Quit Tobacco, use the money saved from smoking and

RELOADING to really add to the firearms collection and range time.:D:D:D

Well, let's face it; every hobby cost alot of money if you wanna do it "right!" So don't regret it, just do it responsibly and enjoy it as much and long as you can.

Well stated, paying for everything without credit is the best way. I will be debt free by 50 with no mortgage. Younger generation do not know how to save money and WAIT to buy something.

You must have no kids to put through college!! :)

Right now i'm shooting .40 and it gets expensive.I'm starting to look at Georgia Arms for ammo instead of Speer Lawman..

Camels are $6 a pack in Ohio. I hear they're paying close to $10 in NYC. This is my second quit. The first time lasted 5 years. I'll celebrate 3 years next month.
Incideous addiction...

And y'all are invited to visit the reloading forum. You won't save money but it sure is fun!
