Save Bad Magazines?

Mini-14 long time shooters know. Only Ruger magazines can be depended on to always work in a Mini-14. On the other hand, Magpul mags have always worked flawlessly in my Glocks.
Advice. Ban all mags from your mini-14 not Ruger brand. One bad Magpul should not sour you on that brand for your Glock(s).

I only have one bad magazine. At my current skill level, I am not capable of figuring out what is wrong with it and then fixing it. So, I'm not doing anything with it at the moment. That said, I am more than willing to toss it in the trash. I know that a lot of "gun failures" are due to magazine failures.

I have a shooting buddy who bought a new Glock. He can't get it to run without failure. This surprised me since nobody buys a Glock except for the fact that they are reliable out of the box. It turns out he was using cheap aftermarket magazines and surplus Egyptian army ammo. My friend is "Cheap first, everything else second." Making a new Glock fail takes some effort, but he found a way.

Why would anyone buy anything but OEM magazines for a Glock, unless they were wanting to up the capacity of the G43 or G48?
Glock magazines are out there by the hundreds of thousands, and are cheap enough considering their consistent quality.
I know nothing about Mag Pul magazines. Their gun stocks are first-rate, I know.
Cheap people annoy me, and I refuse to spend time around them. They generally have no appreciation of quality or nice things in general. Often, when shown something nice, their first ( and sometimes only ) question is "What did that cost?" rather than showing any appreciation of form and function, or how well it was finished.
Someone once said that cheapskates know the price of everything, but the value of nothing.

I had a bunch of Sarsilmaz pistol mags that had weak springs. You either use their mags or nothing so I ordered a bunch of + 10 Wolff gunsprings and replaced the springs and they're good to go. I just don't believe there are any better gunsprings on the planet, especially compared to some if the foreign garbage you come across.

These fellows seem to have a good reputation for springs. However, the do not offer as many different types as Wolff.

I bought the Magpul magazines because I wanted 12 round magazines for my glock 26. I bought the 19 magazines specifically for range magazines. But other than that one magazine the Magpul magazines have performed flawlessly.

As for the Mini 14 magazines, I don't actually know for sure that they're Pro Mags because they don't have any markings on them at all. I bought the gun in a private sale in Colorado in 2008. The gun came with a five-round Ruger magazine which has some issues as well and the three (possibly) Promags.

We got a windfall earlier this year and I went out and bought six Factory Ruger 20 round magazines.

Now that I have my own range I've been shooting the Mini 14 more often. I'm only just now finding out that the one ProMag doesn't work.

The thing is the one ProMag doesn't work intermittently. I'll get two or three good rounds out of it and then it'll fail to feed.

So, as I said in my OP it makes it an excellent magazine for practicing malfunction drills.

I'd trash it. I'm in the OEM only camp when it comes to Glocks (which I shoot more than any other handgun)- factory mags aren't that much more expensive. YMMV.

Never heard of a Promag that worked. I'd trash it if didn't...

I have a LARGE number of ProMags that work just great in my Sig 228 and 229. I replaced the springs with Wolfe and that fixed any problems. I originally changed the followers also, but found it wasn't necessary.

I chuck them, I don't want them missed in with my reliable mags.

Unless it was something expensive and not easy to replace (Model 52 for example), it would get recycled.

Agree regarding the Mini-14 mags. OEM or go home.

What would make anyone pick a Magpul over an OEM Glock mag? It's not like Glock mags are super expensive. Not that MagPul products are bad, love the AR mags they have. But I rather have OEM if at all possible.

I mark bad mags and save them for parts. You never when you'll need a follower, spring or base plate.

On second thought, I'm probably not a good person to give advice. We can't get a car in the garage (or even a motorcycle) and our full sized basement is so packed with "stuff", I had to spend months organizing things last year so I could get through the isles.......

......and have room for more stuff.
