You know, ya hang around your favorite LGS and there are the regulars and then their are the few REGULARS who seem to have an unlimited source of disposable income. I mean more money than some third world Nations.

They live at the shop, anything good that comes in, it's like the classifieds "first I'll take"! No question no bartering, they snatch up all the "good stuff" Most of it will never be shot. The rest of the "working", lower lower middle class folks get the scraps:(
Granted most of us regular folk can not afford the $2K fancy shotguns but leave some shooters for us.

Damn Colt Python came in today, I do not think the ink was dry on the transfer before it was sold.

I need therapy but can't afford it.

I usually check out one or two local gun shops about every month or so. And a lot of them are now catering to the ebr crown. Because right now thats where the money is being made.Oh I still see a few revolvers and autos then you have the tactical rifles and shotguns. I have nothing against them but you ought to see the nimrods sometimes at the local range. $$$ going down the range every minute. And why is it they always use the pistol range when they do their shooting?. Frank

You need a new hobby. :)

Took me some time to get it that certain people would come in and "seem surprised" when the LGS employee gets up, goes in the back, and comes out with a pristine whatever and hands it to the person---"Look what just came in." Finally I asked if my money was the wrong color. I got the old reply, "We didn't know you would be interested in that." I put them on notice that I was interested in ALL guns. After a bit of sucking-up(on their part) I agreed to continue shopping there. It has been a decent co-existence with many purchases from there. Every now and then, I'll make a small "obligatory" purchase even if I'm not in need just to keep the wheels greased. I'm not so irritated since I'm "on the list" now.

The LGS

The saying "You Snooze You Lose" had to have been created in this place of business..

Yeah, I know the type. Hard to beat them to anything. Makes you feel like you are always a day late and a dollar short.

I am never "late" just real short!:D

Guess I am sorta, kinda part of the in crowd, but lack the resources to be a real contender. For some reason the LGS always wants to make a profit.

The last LGS I worked at had many, many regulars that were of the 'no discernible budget' type.
The only, and I mean ONLY determining factor deciding if they bought something was if they wanted it - period. Didn't matter if it was a $20k Parker SxS, a $5k Barrett or a mere $1k classic S&W.

Often wondered what that would be like.
Oh - and none of them were retired cops.

This is all true. However, bare in mind these guns eventualy get recycled when the gluttons croak.

Now that is very interesting as the main "players" here are ALL retired LEOS with the exception of one. They all were high ranking and most got buyouts, deferred retirement lump sums, and receive pensions and SSA, more than most working stiffs. They worked for it, so well deserved, but most of us can not compete with that.

At one of the three local shops I deal with, I asked the owner if he had anyone else as nuts about buying/selling/trading there as me...he told me I wasn't even in the running, and that he has several "buy any, buy all" customers; in fact, he has a standing order from a doctor to buy anything interesting, unique, or new to market that comes in...no checking with him, just buy it, up to $10,000 limit per month... (He doesn't actually spend the $10,000 every month.)

My poor little debit card and I slunk out, licking our wounds... :(

I find it easier to give the shop's owner a list of guns that I want with my name and phone number and if a gun on the list shows up he gives me a call. I am not kidding, I really do this with three local shops :D

I have a friend that has a built in "6th sense" that tells him that such and such a gun shop, 50 miles away had an "XYZ" traded in today at 3 PM, and he is on the phone at 3:05 PM. Or a friend of a friend calls him and says he has his uncles old army guns ( Luger, 1911, 03, 1917, etc.) and he just wants to get rid of them. Or, he just hapens to walk into the LGS as a new trade in or consignment gun is placed in the rack and it doesn't quite make it to the rack. But at least I get to fondle them from time to time.

Yes, I've seen this too.

Fact is though, like the toys in 'Toy Story', if you don't take your guns out and regularly shoot them, they get lonely. No gun is truly happy unless it is regularly enjoyed by an enthusiast:).

But seriously, I look at a fair quantity of nice guns and, realizing that I already have more than I can regularly shoot, think to myself; "wow, somebody is going to have a lot of fun with THAT!"

I can appreciate a lot of things without having to own them.

Also, I see guys at the range sometimes with some super-groovy piece. When I express an interest, about 100% of the time they'll ask me if I want to try it. After shooting most of them I think "man, I'm glad I didn't drop a grand for that experience."

Nope, I know I cannot afford the entire shop. I will get those that are available and speak to me.

Have I missed some that I would really liked to have purchased? Absolutely! I think it may be my punishment for all the years of trading and selling many that if I had them now, I would be one that others envied.:D

My Model 19 and my Model 586 come to mind but I digress.

For that can afford, so long as they give them a nice home, care for them etc, I bear no envy.

Well, maybe a little.
