Yes it's true, Michael Vick has a new dog. My ONLY point I want to make here is this my friends. Dog or animal abuse is NOT only Dog Fighting. Yes he's done his time, yes he say's he's sorry, but I still don't like it. I just think he's thumbing his nose at us, bigger than life Sports Star and no one will tell him what He's going to do or not do.

I'm one of thee biggest animal lovers on this forum, and I think this stinks to the bitter end. I don't care about Football, and I certainly don't care about Michael Vick. I do care about abusing animals, I'm hoping to not make too many enemy's with this post, but while most people who will defend him are watching Football and enjoying life, I'm taking care of my beloved dogs wounds from severe allergies and immune deficiency's that there are no cures. I have been doing this for almost 7 years now and will till their very end of days. Thanks for listening, 26

I think part of his punishment should have been to never be allowed to own, posses or care for another dog for the rest of his life. That being said only time will tell if he has been truly reformed, for the sake of his current dog, I hope he has.

26Ford, God bless you. I used to be a big football fan but as I got a little older I lost most of my interest. When it comes to dogs I have had 17 in my lifetime and loved each and everyone of them. I think I'm probably on my last one, a beautiful Eastern European GSD who is very protective of both the wife and myself. Michael Vick and his ilk are worthless pieces of trash.

Just goes to show, if you have enough money, rules can be broken. I believe part of his original punishment was no pets. He's been trying to get around that for quite awhile. I don't understand why he can't leave the dogs alone. He had his chance and is only out of jail because of money.
Let him have a pet rat or fish or something. NO DOGS.

In my opinion( worth what you just paid) allowing micheal Vick to have another dog is not much removed from allowing a pedophile to adopt young children. He has shown he is not a responsible dog owner and should not be allowed to have more

Thank you and GOD bless you all. I say that with a tear in my eyes, 26

His punishment called for no dogs for 3 years and the 3 years has expired.

26Ford,
It's just like all the other high priced celebs, stars, actors whatever. They have "special" rules for them. How many times do we have to see and hear about the likes of L. Lohan ?? Anyone of us would still be in jail.

I can't say how I really feel about Vick and several others:mad:

Sir, that is the main point of this thread. So he has served his time, met his quota, so what. If it was a Pedophile case and it was your daughter, would it matter if the perp served his time and now showed up at your door with some flowers and candy for your beloved little child?

I thank you for clarifying the punishment, but I'm not sure were you are standing regarding him owning a new totally helpless animal.

Both of my Bullies are rescues from Arizona, the male always sick to this day, was rescued from husband and wife who were never home, and my boy sat outside basting on the rocks in Arizona while these two knucklheads worked their 12 hour shifts together. How often do you think Mr. Vick will be sitting home training and caring for his new dog. It's wrong, and it's abuse- AGAIN!

Comparing Vick to L Lohan is ridiculous. The man was charged, convicted and served his sentence. His probation for owning a dog was 3 years and that time has expired. It has been my observation that his attitude, demeanor, and most importantly, hi ACTIONS have changed. I doubt there is a single member of this forum who has not made a mistake in life, learned from it, and wanted another chance to prove himself. I certainly have, and I am grateful for those that forgave me my trespasses. I say leave him be. He paid for his mistakes, he shouldnt have to for the rest of his days.

He wasnt accused of pedophilia, so that comparison is ridiculous.

Would you make the same argument for a man who tortured and killed children? While I realize that some make a distinction between children and dogs, in our house our dogs are just as loved as our children.

He may have served his time, and paid for his crime, but I don't believe that he should be allowed to ever own pets of any kind again. He can live where he wants, make a living however he is capable, and participate in society as he chooses, which are all necessary elements to making a "successful" life...but I don't believe that he needs or should be allowed to own pets again. I would be much more impressed with him if he himself said he didn't ever want to own pets again, but instead devoted some of his time, money, and public profile to the ASPCA and rescue organizations to place stray pets in good homes.

A convicted felon cannot possess a gun... is this wrong too?

Last Friday morning I was sitting at the computer which is next to a front window. About 9:00 a white Grand Cherokee stopped at the end of my driveway. I couldn't see very well because of the trees. They got out of the drivers side and opened the back door and said a few words. Then jumped back in and drove off.
Strange I thought? Until I saw the dog they let out!

It takes a sorry *** to put a animal out to fend for their own...

No I would not.

Before you get any more bent...I own 10 dogs and 3 goats. We foster for a local Dachshund rescue organization and spend countless hours and dollars helping with re-homing and healing ailing dogs. I have seen some of the most abused and pitiful animals you will likely ever see. And I have spent MY time and money to help the, train them, heal them, and get them to a loving home. I have walked the grounds of dome of the worst puppy mills in the southeast. And I have talked with more than a few of these breeders and horrible owners.

Having said that, I rarely see a change in the breeder or owners attitude, much less behavior.

As for pedophiles, serial killers, rapists, arsonists, or kidnappers...we arent discussing any of those. We ARE talking about Michael Vick getting a dog for his family. In his words, to teach his kids the responsibility of caring for an animal and the joy and love that comes from that. Lets please keep the comparisons within reason OK.....

This is a ridiculous analogy. It goes to prove my thesis that we have changed from a nation of dog lovers to dog worshippers.

Wow. You, sir, have some serious problems. A dog is a dog. A child is a human being.

You and Ingrid Newkirk:

"There's no rational basis for saying that a human being has special rights. A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. They're all animals."

Oh, I guess that's about the same as abandoning an unwanted child side of the road or at the mall. (Sarcasm turned VERY high.)

Abandoned animals are one of my pet peeves. Abandoning a litter of unwanted kittens or puppies at a dumpster is just as bad as what Vick did.

Concerning Vick, lets put this in perspective; He served more time than Dante Stallworth, who pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter after killing a pedestrian while driving drunk. I believe Stallworth served 30 days. There are dozens of celebrities who have beaten their wife/girlfriend to a bloody pulp and never served a day.

26Ford, I am afraid that this is one of those cases where the law has spoken and you cannot agree with it. All I can say to that is that there is a LOT of it about in the modern world covering a wide variety of subjects.

Rightarm
I don't understand why he can't leave the dogs alone.

That's an interesting question I could pose to many people. One of the biggest issues between landlords and tenants in this city is pet ownership, especially cats and dogs. I have one relative who is continually complaining that she is living in a "no pets" condo and says things like "How can you not have a dog?" Pets are fun and can be a great comfort to those in their twilight days. Sadly in my relative's case I know all too well it is a the desire to have something over which to exercise complete control. Let us hope that is not the driving force with Michael Vick.

I was attempting to say that in our home, they are loved and considered members of our family just as much as our children. Of course there are differences...I have had to have several pets put to sleep for inoperable cancers, and obviously that is not something I would do to one of my children. Neither do I ask my children to use the bathroom outside, feed them on the floor, and so on. (Although when they were growing up, my kids did do some of those things...not at our insistence, of course, in fact in spite of our efforts to the contrary.) So, yes, I do acknowledge and recognize that there are differences...but in terms of loving them, and regarding them as living beings deserving of good treatment, in our home they are considered members of our family.

..but in terms of loving them, and regarding them as living beings deserving of good treatment, in our home they are considered members of our family.

We now have a point on which we can both agree.

Now.. now.. we got'a be nice to all the people out there that do wrong and bad things!
Because if we don't we will not be able to complain when they do it again!
