My father was a personal friend and customer of the knife maker and engraver Ralph Bone. Sadly, I now have all of the custom items my father had him do. I'm good at taking care of firearms, know all about that. Knives, however, were never something that interested me beyond pocket carry to use as utility knives. These were made by Ralph Bone and Enedino De Leon, his apprentice in the early 70s.
So, how do you care for custom knives like these, other than not abusing them like I do normally? Anything I need to know or is it just like maintaining a firearm? The longer Bone knife was carried in Vietnam and shows the signs of it, especially the leather sheath. I don't think the other three have ever been sharpened. The Arkansas toothpick by De Leon sat in my dad's office my entire life, just used it as a letter opener when it was handy.
Obviously, they mean a lot to me and I am not interested in selling them, but I need to know how to preserve them and what not to do with them.
