NRA's Wayne LaPierre on Meet The Press This Morning

I'm sure that it'll be ambush journalism with an agenda at its finest.

I think NBC may now be the worst of the three big networks in regard to generating anti-gun sensation. But they're all bad. There's no objectivity whatever.

That'll be like Benjamin Natenyahu being interviewed on Al Jazerra by Al Quida. But remember in the early or mid 90's when the NRA was on the defense over so called "assault weapons" and LaPierre said about a certain guy with lots of power, "They need a certain ammount of bloodshed to further their cause.", or something to that effect. There was an uproar, but then the guy who he was talking about was all of a sudden on the defense. It was great, gutsy, and really surprised me. I started reading the news again and in places where you might not expect it, coverage or exploitation of the Ct. killings are not front and center. Some reporters were very irritated with other reporters when a certain guy gave a press conference on the shooting, other reporters asked about the fiscal disaster that will occur Jan. 1. instead.
I don't know if it's good or bad that LaPierre is going on there.

Everybody's on the bandwagon to begin the gun ban. First AR's, then mags, and finally they will ban primers. No primers - no ammo - factory or otherwise. That's why the govt. has stockpiled so much ammo.

I think what Wayne should do when he gets on Meet the Depressed is simply tell the following:

"It doesn't matter what I say, you are going to twist it around anyways. I think Obama is wrong, and you guys are exploiting this tragedy to its highest level and what I said at the press conference I stand by. Have a nice day." and get up and walk out.

I sure hope he is prepared and is more polished than his last press conference aka "The NRA response". The two protestors in that one were immediatly escorted out, and I was wondering if that took place at NRA Headquarters? If it was, how the heck did they get in there? Private property means you can let in whomever you want, and I thought LaPierre looked a little surprised by the outburst. Usually LaPierra is smooth and looks in control of the subject matter, and he won't have to worry about protestors standing up and interupting in this interview....

My opinion, yours may vary............

As is usually the case, they had press credentials. A friendly to their cause reporter or organization got them in. It's happened before.

When Wayne was asked if he would support more regulations and Wayne stated we already have 20,000 laws on the books he should have asked what more new laws or regulations that they would want?

I watched Meet The Press and Wayne looked awkward.
He made some of his points, but he needs to polish up his skills. He was shaking his head no while he was speaking about the current clout of the NRA, blinking, & not maintaining eye contact.

Sounds like the NRA needs a professional front man.

I wonder if Alan Gura is available?

Maybe that is needed now. I do like Wayne and believe he has done a commendable job, but perhaps it is time for a (younger?) more dynamic & personable front man. The PR battle ahead of us will be the toughest on record.

Sad but true.
The Bill of Rights has come down to PR, good looks and a head full of hair.

What the NRA needs is another Charlton Heston. Someone who can speak and when he does get attention. Heston while not everyone's favor was a great public speaker, and he pulled in a bit of Hollywood with it. If it would not mean the total demise of his acting career I would suggest Tom Selleck or someone else with really good PR skills. I mean look at Obama, he has nothing at all in the way of substance but he sells it. I hate to say it but what we need in the NRA is a BS artist that can paint one heck of a masterpiece.

I also watched the program and would make a couple of comments. First, Wayne isn't a "PR" person, he doesn't come across well on television. Second, he should not have made any public appearances until after the first of the year when congress has reconvened and we see which way the "wind is blowing". At this time (January), as the representatives make proposals for laws, then will be the time for the NRA to come forward. If a law is proposed that the NRA can support, it can do so then, or suggest a modification. If it can't support a proposal, it should clearly state why it does not support it. Despite all the rhetoric from both sides, right now we don't have a clear picture regarding the publics views on this issue. Wayne should have understood that his going on national television was not going to change any minds, on either side. What we are aiming at (pardon the pun) are those people in the middle who are looking for good information with which to base an opinion. The NRA hasn't provided this, or the right person to do so. Will it? Stayed tuned.

I am afraid we do, and it ain't looking good.
55% Favor Assault Weapons Ban, But 62% Oppose Complete Gun Ban - Rasmussen Reports™
We are being systematically demonized, and frankly, I don't know that there is anything we can do about it. We have had a couple of members here relating how their wives have jumped them about "assault weapons." I am afraid that most people who were on the fence, or apathetic before the shooting are, at least for the time being, on the other side now.

I wonder if the NRA would would hire an admitted conservative who is 40, fit and female?
Someone like Angie Harmon, perhaps?
