Hello all, just wanted to share this new addition that I managed to snag just before Christmas. I stopped into my local shop on the way to work to check out the madness and see if anyone had traded in their silly old revolvers for a fancy new "assault weapon" and sure enough, there was a 4" 19-4 sitting there just begging to be bought. While it wasn't the 2.5" one that I'd really like, I have a pretty hard time passing up P&R Smiths, especially when they're only $400 and in good shape with box and tools. It's got a little bit of wear at the muzzle and a few small dings and scratches, but doesn't look like it was shot much. It has the target hammer and trigger and the serial number (9K33XX) puts it at 1976-77, if I'm reading the chart correctly. Did I do OK? I think so, if only because I've paid more for guns in not as nice condition.
The gun also came with a bit of a story. The woman who was doing my paperwork and taking my money said that her fiance had just traded this gun in. It had belonged to his grandfather, and then to his father, who apparently had just recently passed away. It seemed kind of sad to me that the first thing he would do is sell off his grandfather's gun to buy a Glock...

Anyway, here it is:

Also in the box were two of these things, which appear to be some sort of multi-wrench-tool thing. Any ideas as to what they go to?

Thanks and Happy New Year to all,

I've got a 19-4 just like it, $495 with box, papers and brush. Sweet gun, with the smoothest DA pull I've found yet. I've also got a 6" 19-4, but not as slick. Still need a 2 1/2".

You got a really nice gun and deal there.

As to the:
'It seemed kind of sad to me that the first thing he would do is sell off his grandfather's gun to buy a Glock..."

Sad for two reasons, to sell off something your grandfather bought and owned and kept so nice and to trade down for, of all things, a tupperware gun !

.

i got a 19-4 in a deal with my father in law. cost me about 400. It is in great condition but no box papers or tools. Nice gun congrats

Yep. I have a few of them that came with my Penn reels.
What it was doing in a S&W box with this gun will probably always be a mystery.
JP

Probably because the screwdriver end fits the S&W sideplate screws. Many of the Penn reels use a similar size screw on their sideplates.

The larger "cogged" wrench section is for removing the handle screw.

Thanks everyone. I finally got it all cleaned up and ready to go. I'll find out how it shoots tomorrow.

I don't think that wrench was ever used on the revolver. The screwdriver end on it is way too wide and thick to use on any of the screws. My guess is that the wrenches were just there so they wouldn't get lost.
