Vermont is still a gun friendly state (at the moment). If you decide to relocate here, welcome to you and your family.
Believe me I am thinking it over, I just need to really think about it. I know I want to live near or in the mountains and somewhere near Bennington because that means my family will essentially be driving the same distance as they are now, Pownal is too close to my brothers in law who my wife doesn't even want to live near. Any ideas?
Don't know what I would do if I where in your position - but I feel badly for all of you.
Seems to me that before you pack it in and move, it would be worth it to join in with the active fight against these politicians and do everything you can to have them defeated in the next election - then repeal these stupid laws - I mean since it will take time to locate a new place to live and sell what you have you might as well fight this fight while you are there. I wish you all the best. I know my wife and I have decided to pack up and leave when/if it gets that bad here.
But in the meantime we are doing what we can to convience others to vote for pro-2A politicians.
Regards,
Pete
According to the law which I have read from the Senate and Assembly's website, the M1 Garand is covered under Curio and Relic because it is over fifty years old. As far as .22's go, the Ruger 10/22 is banned now, unless Ruger can come up with a 7 rounder which might be tough since it is a rotary and not a box.
Probably the biggest thing that is really going to slow up gun shops, gun sales etc is going to be the background checks on ammo. This is the one that really is making it hard for me to want to stay here in NY any further. There was an article in the local paper where they went and interviewed gun shop owners and the State Police is trying to ram through a 24 hour hotline because if someone buys a gun you will need to perform a NICS check on the gun and a State check on the ammo. The problem is there is nothing saying if you have to do several for each different box etc. On top of that, you will need to keep the person's name, DOB, occupation, address in a ledger and have to see a photo ID. I cannot sell or give a box of ammo to someone now, you need a background check. No more internet sales, all ammo has to be done through a dealer, period. I was hoping to get my FFL, it is the whole reason I am living where I am because the house comes with a large guest cottage that I was going to renovate before I got hurt two years ago. Now I am rethinking that seriously. This area still needs a gun shop, there isn't one for thirty miles south and 60 miles north. So do I stay and live with this, because if I do get my FFL I will be starting over with all of this nonsense and not having to change everything, or do I sell out and move to Vermont, hoping I find a nice piece of land I can afford with the terrain and woods that I have here? I am not even sure I could afford to move, but if Cuomo gets a wild hair up his butt and throws out microstamping as he has indicated and like some of the downstaters want, then the gun business he weakened earlier this week will be finished. I know I have some hard thinking ahead, especially since he wants to put a casino only thirty minutes away too, the crime will only go up. I told the wife that if the Casino goes in and microstamping comes up and we can afford it we are most likely going to be out of here.
The way I read it was any detachable magazine.
So yes, even .22's are affected. It did state that post 1994 ban 10 round magazines were still legal, but now we are apparently on the "honor system" and are only allowed to load 7 rounds into the mag.
Yes, sir! Scout's Honor!
