I attended the rally at our state house on Saturday with my daughter and a few kids from our youth trap and skeet team. Very good crowd and some press coverage but not enough.
Still hearing the same old thing from my fellow state shooters, "What can I do about it, they already have their minds made up." Many I asked to go turned me down for stuff like a basket ball game!
This needs to get maximum attention in the state house and the local reps offices or we may face more restrictions than the new NY bills.

Please-if you know any shooters who live in CT forward a link to this National Shooting Sports Foundation bullitin. We need more women esp. to help with the testimony on Monday.

Another good source for active info is the web site for the Connecticut Citizens Defense League or CCDL, or the Coalition of Connecticut Sportsman.

If I sound like I am Screamin for help.... I AM!

HandEjector, I have a link to the NSSF bullitin but I do not want to violate board rules.
Can we post it?

No one from CT? Or any that know some on the fence guys?
Any calls to the state reps would be helpful. We have precious little time to make the case that the bills passed in NY do not make sense. The large numbers of law abiding citizens oppose these ideas but they are not being heard.

Bob I went to the rally also . I've been sending out e/mails to all the politicains from the president on down to my local reps. I also joined CCDL . I 've gotten 2 replys so far from my reps. but they are not very promising. I think we are screwed but will keep up the fight and try to attend some of the hearings if they open them to the public.

The word has gotten around it seems almost everyone knows at this point.

I wanted to go Saturday, had a work related schedule that I could not change. This is a problem on our side, we work and have family responsibilities our political opponents well, not so much.

It looks like I will be going on Monday.

Dont give up, it isnt over till its over...

I was on another board last week where several people from CT were complaining about the new proposed laws. I answered back that I would be glad to meet them on the capitol steps Saturday Noon. Don't know how many showed up. I was there, then went home and watched the local media paint us as wacko "gun rights extremists". They showed less than two minutes of a two hour rally and did a hatchet job on the parts of the speeches they did show. FWIW, I was the guy with the sign made of quotes from Washington, Jefferson and Mason stapled to an IDPA target backer.
As I told the reporter from the Hartford Courant, it's not a gun thing, it's a constitutional thing.

This was the last email I got from CCDL

Bipartisan Task Force On Gun Violence Prevention And Children's Safety Schedules Hearings
Critical Note: There are presently videos, articles, and some blogs circulating that are confusing many people. These all point to one ore more conspiracy theories.

While some of the information has not been released yet by the investigative teams, the Today show video in particular that mentions an AR15 in the trunk of a car is actually a video that was taken the morning after the school was attacked. That information has since been corrected to state that an AR15 type rifle was used in the attack.

Testifying with any kind of assertion that there is a conspiracy of some kind going on, will mean that you will not be taken seriously, and may mean a set back for us all. Please heed this message.

Additional Tips (Please see original tips below):
We no longer need to bring additional copies to testify with other than what you may need for yourself.

What is critical at this point is to get your friends to contact their lawmakers.

Phone or Email with a courteous note or statement that says you oppose this legislative action.

Full Bi-Partisan Task Force Public Hearing

Newtown High School
6:00pm
Important Note: These hearings are not bill specific. There will still be hearings afterwards on specific Bills that either have been introduced, or which will be introduced. We do not have specific agenda items for each of these hearings. We suggest when preparing testimony that we do the following:

1) School safety hearing- What to focus on: How children and even faculty are defenseless, and that the majority of these mass casualty crimes occur in "gun free zones". Consideration for police, armed guards or even the possibility of staff carrying a firearm should be considered before banning guns and restricting the rights of law abiding people.*

2) Gun Violence Hearing- What to focus on: the actions recommended from this hearing, may have some bearing later, on which of the gun bills become raised by a committee. We need to be able to address broad topics that are included in the bills that have been introduced (see bills below).

3) Mental Health Hearing- What to focus on: the lack of treatment for individuals with mental health issues, lack of medications, follow up on whether or not patients are consistently staying on medications, question whether or not there are studies on the long term effects of these medications and how patients react after extended usage.*

4) Full Bipartisan Task Force Hearing - We are not sure if we will have much of an opportunity to testify at this hearing. Based on the time, and the particular venue, this may be a symbolic public display considering the location. We do suggest preparing testimony for this particular hearing in "broad terms" that cover the scope of each task force committee.

*If you have specific knowledge or first hand experience with Mental Health issues or school security matters, we are asking that you attend these hearings in particular. The leadership of CCDL may find it difficult to attend all four of these hearings, as they are all scheduled on consecutive work days. We are coordinating with each other to ensure maximum coverage.

We should all try to communicate with each other so that we spread out coverage for each hearing. The Gun Violence Hearing is the most important one, but we also should focus on mental health and school security as well. Active CCDL members are often communicating with each other on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/groups/63321754119/

Tips:
Please try to keep written testimony to one page (bullet points are good)
Please be polite when addressing our elected officials. Repeatedly using familiar phrases (though they may be true) such as "shall not be infringed" or "it violates the 2nd Amendment" wears out the legislators.
Examples of CCDL testifying can be found on our youtube page here: CT Citizens Defense League - YouTube
Examples of written testimony from the magazine ban hearing from 2011 can be found here:

If this will be your first time testifying before a committee, we welcome you, and look forward to seeing you there. Please join us!
Please contact Gun Violence task force members and ask any questions pertinent to these bills.

Monday is the public testimony for the Firearms safety wing of the task force in CT.
The need is great to reach out as the folks in VT did and get the word to the State level reps that these bills are not the answer.

Use polite tone and be brief if you can call and remind your friends to please help with this.

Guys,
this link is a good write up of the day in Hartford Monday as it really happened. I stayed until I was able to testify at 1:10 PM. We arrived at 9 am.
I can not tell you how powerful it was to be with such a large crowd who were all aligned to protect your right to keep and bare your Arms.
It was also powerful to talk with the families from Newtown. These people have been though a lot and I understand how their community has been torn apart.

The speakers were 5 to 1 pro firearms and almost all were very polite and well spoken. Nearly 85 percent were dressed in their best Sunday suits. This is all about perception and the press was watching.

I am curious as to what you saw in your news about this and how it played.

Please take a moment to watch the video feed in this article of the Father of one of the Newtown victims. His words raised the whole building in applause.

Be very aware the Chief of Police from Cromwell who is the head of the CT police chiefs association does not believe in the Constitution. He asked who was going to pay for his men to come get the guns he wants banned and confiscated.

Senator Williams is looking to take Chuck Shummers spot on the national stage as a gun ban pro. He was totally against NSSF training young shooters to be safe with a firearm. He wants no youth use of guns.

Thanks for making calls and sending emails.
We need to keep asking friends to do the same and add the the momentum from yesterday. The task force is not firearms friendly. But they are listening to the phone calls and emails and taking a count.

Please forward this to all you know who shoot legally in CT.

Bob
Note: Hand ejector this link is the only mostly accurate write up of what happened in the state house I have seen so far.

CT Legislators Declare War on Second Amendment | Yankee Gun Nuts

Chris Murphy was on radio this morning spewing all the same stuff he has been, and just more or less parrots the anti's. If he was at the hearing, it is apparent that not one thing pro gun that was said mattered to him.

It is clearer to me than ever that the time is now to get the guys and gals you know who carry or own to make calls to their reps and state senators. This is going to get moving fast now.
The news coverage of the event was very tempered to the anti side. The people who were there know what happened and we now need a follow up of calls and emails to match the overwhelming presence in the hearings on monday. Tonights news will mirror the Monday coverage with more effect due to the schedule that is posted for the High School meeting going on right now.
Keep the good work up.

Just got this notice. Please forward it to all you know.
Looks like NY Style is headed to CT for this set of laws.

From CCDL,

Stop Emergency Certification

Thank you to all that testified at the Working Group hearings. Now that these hearings have completed, we must contact our own legislators today and ask them to not support any gun bills that come as a result of emergency certification.

Please express the following:

1) Emergency Certification on firearms related bills is not the correct use of our legislative process.

2) We deserve hearings on specific firearms bills that are raised by a committee only.

3) Oppose any bill that comes to the House or Senate via Emergency Certification.

4) Politely remind your legislators that they work for the citizens of Connecticut, and that you are tracking what they do and how they vote.

5) Express that we do not need additional gun laws. Enforce the current laws and lengthen prison sentences for criminals that conduct violent acts.

6) Explain to them that the concept of "Gun Free Zones" does not work, and you support measures to increase school safety with police, security or possibly armed faculty that have received proper training.
