I hope this is not too political, but is it possible that as the Senate Majority Leader. Harry Reid could be a huge friend of gun rights advocates..it is my understanding he has a good track record on supporting gun rights..how will he ultimately side on this bill Feinstien is going to propose today?..anyone from Nevada may be able to shed some good light on this?

I WOULD NOT trust Harry Reid.!! as far as I could throw him.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I definitely agree, however it is too late to change the players in this game, and I don't know if any senate dems with a good track record on gun rights, besides of all people, Harry Reid...and he IS the leader in the senate...could the people of Nevada possibly vote him out if he went against the 2nd AMMENDMENT here?? He could find himself in quite a predicament here

Yup, they could get rid of him and that is why he has little to say on the subject.

Keep yur eye on Harry and Mitch to try to work a deal.......

Gun Rights and Budget Restraints

D.C. is all about the Deal..........

As ol Mongo put it We're all jest Pawns............

I wrote Mitch a letter the other day about not negotiating away the Filibuster. It is the only weapon the Republicans have in the Senate.

Friend ? Harry is in a tough spot between the good people of Nevada and his left wing party. Since he is early in his term he may dump on NV and side with the libs.

I'll bet that Harry likes being the Majority Leader more than he'd like being the Minority Leader. I suspect that he knows that a new AWB would probably cost his party the Senate in `14.

He's in a sweet spot. He can let the GOP in the Senate do the heavy lifting on killing bills like Feinstein's. He can not try to push anything through because they wouldn't get through the House, his vulnerable members outside of the deep blue states won't have to risk their jobs. The bills die, his hands stay clean.

Sort of like Michael Corleone when his son was being baptised. :)

Ole Harry in a spot . Pour it on pour it on . He likes his job and will do any thing to keep it . Let him know Obama's Just got 4 more years and has nothing to lose . But remind ole Harry that he does and that he could lose his Plush and powerful job . Let him know that you are watching him and that you will do all that you can to find a replacement for him

Harry's speech pattern and cadence makes it very difficult for me to listen to him.

Anyway......

War makes strange bedfellows. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Stephanie, I think you hit the nail on the head. In fact, I strongly suspect this had a role in letting the filibuster rule stay in effect - let the senate republicans do the heavy lifting and keep his own hands clean, one way or another.

As soon as Obama has the votes lined up they will vote to ban and confiscate the so called assault weapons. They are working as hard as they can behind the scenes promising those Senators that will lose their seats if they vote for the ban new jobs in the imperial capitol. They borrow 46 cents of every dollar to grant themselves this largesse and leave the rest of us to pay for it.

You can bet your sweet bippi those Senators like Landrieu etc... are being promised the moon right now with your money if they would only vote to end the 2nd amendment. Then they will go to work on the house. The power hungry destroyers of liberty will use any means necessary to confiscate our liberty from us and use our own money to do it.

Harry Reid could care less about gun owners. I lived in Nevada for over four years and I never met one gun owner who had any use for him. The only reason he narrowly got elected the last time is because of the influence of the casino owners and operators throughout the entire state of Nevada

I will agree that he is in a tough spot. Not just his seat but some of the other Senators up for reelection in the next cycle. Democratic Senators in red states. So IMO, he will try very hard to avoid even bringing anything up for a vote UNLESS he really believes it can pass the House.

The worst outcome for him would be to hold a vote in the Senate and get some of those marginal Democrats to vote in an anti-gun manner in a roll call vote. And then have that bill go to the House and die. Then they get nothing new in the law AND those Senators have to defend their votes at home.

So again IMO, Reid won't bring most of this stuff to a vote. The filibuster won't be necessary. Kind of like the way the Democratic Senate has avoided passing a budget for years now. Don't put themselves "on the record" if their vote isn't going to result in passed legislation anyway.

That's exactly what is happening... Sen. Reid is actively killing the AWB before it even makes it to committee; he has asked for a re-write of Sen. Feinstein's bill to remove the ban, but include increased background checks and magazine limits.

Assuming there isn't another mass shooting, we've won this battle, now it's time focus preserving private sales and defeating some magazine limits. Why some? Anything over 30-rounds is doomed; we're not going to win that because there isn't too much support for anything over "normal capacity". I see handguns and rifles being limited to 20 rounds just so politicians can say they "did something".
