Mass. compliant M&P w/ 10 lb trigger. Saw this listed recently. Must be a Mass. law, right? Anyone ever shoot one? What kind of control can you have with it? Anyone want one???

My M&P .45 had what I thought was the worst scratchy gritty heavy trigger I ever felt my guess was at least 10lbs I'm in NH.. I worked it in took some tool marks off the lock works polished it up a bit all with just a field stripping, and then dry fired it a few times it's way better now with a trigger of about 7lbs would be my guess.. But i still don"t like to feel anything in the take up travel before the trigger breaks.. In any case it should get better fairly fast.. George

OK, it's the law,but...

Can the trigger be adjusted or worked over to make it a decent shooter? I am NOT in Mass., Jim.

My fs40 had one of those so called safe 10lb triggers(more like 20lbs) it was just horrible. Put in an Apex kit and is an absolute joy to shoot now.My daughter just won a 9c and we will not even bring it to the range until we put an Apex kit in that one. A very easy install also.

They do use a different trigger bar in the 10# guns, It should be a easy swap and the standard bar is something like $13. I'd probably still top it off with the Apex sear myself.

What's the difference between the trigger bars in the mass 10lb+guns triggers verses none mass gun versions? Anyone have side by side pictures? George

I had a M&P 45 compact that had one of the worst triggers I have ever pulled. I'm in FL.

The new Shield I just bought has a great trigger!

Peace

I have both, and the difference is so subtle you'd probably not notice it. It has to do with the angle of the loop that engages the sear. If its a brand new gun, the trigger bar will have red paint on the firing pin drop safety plunger engagement surface, but the paint wears off fast. Its actually a combination of the trigger bar and trigger return spring that makes it 10lbs. The heavy trigger bar with standard trigger return spring will yield around 8lb pull.

If anyone has pictures of the difference in the trigger bar loops I would love to see them.. Wonder if I can change the shape of my trigger bar loop? Thanks! George

LOL, let me get this straight... The nanny state of Mass requires a 10# trigger? Someone should do research into how many errant shots are fired on their "safer" streets vs other areas without their idiotic law.

The stupidity running rampant in our country is absolutely shocking. :(

To the OP, give the fine folks at APEX a call. I bet they can help get your trigger problem squared away.

Yes, I've owned and fixed several of the MA version. Yes it's shootable as is but not a joy. ( My first M&P 45 broke at 12.5#!) The fix is simple and cheap though. What's different in the MA version is the trigger return spring and sear spring. To get it down to 7#+/- all you need to do is swap out the trigger return spring with standard S&W trigger return spring available from Brownells for $3.33. It takes less than 5 min and requires no disassembly. Just slide the trigger pin 1/2 way out to release the old spring, then slide it back over the new spring while using a sharp knife /exacto blade to hold it in place. ( BTW: Apex has a YouTube video detailing how to change this spring but they pull the whole trigger group. No need. )
That said, it will then still have the normal "grit' that most M&P's have from the factory. I've found by leaving the MA trigger return spring alone and installing the $40 APEX sear (only), I get a consistent and crisp 5.5#. ( The MA trigger return spring seams similar to the spring supplied in the DAK kit.) About perfect for the guns intended use IMHO. I now have this set-up in three M&Ps and love it.
(Apex also has a You Tube video on how to do this too BTW.)

Bottom line: Most folks who buy an M&P end up with an Apex sear or trigger job anyway. The MA version responds just as nicely to either.

So how do I know if I have a MA compliant M&P 40. I picked one up two weeks ago and have not fired it yet but have dry fired and it dose not seem like a 10# pull. The other thing is it came with two 15 round mags that I am pretty sure that isn't.

For those who have installed the Apex hard sear, is it hard to do? I note on their website that they recommend gunsmith installation.

My new M&P45c has about a 8-10# trigger, and there is some roughness in the initial takeup.

If it came with 15 round mags, it is not the MA version. MA limits to 10.

It's not hard if you have any mechanical skills at all., You will need a 1/8" punch and no other special tools. Again, there are ample video tutorials on how to do it. I'm sure Apex is covering their butt with that statement.
That said, installing the sear would take a gunsmith all of 15 min so the charge should be minimal.
