It's black, it appears to be deadly, and it has military-like enhancements.

No one really needs a rifle like this, do they?

traded and sold AR mags for this Savage M12 w/Leupold 6.5-20x40 in .223

hope to shoot it for the first time tomorrow!

That may not be a joke for long. Don't forget most all hunting calibers will penetrate the ballistic armor worn by police. (Mayor Bloomberg on "armor pierceing bullets")

This actually surfaced a few years ago. The call was, "who needs an evil sniper rifle that will kill people out to thousands of yards. You don't need a scope to shoot a deer." It died off pretty quickly but the antis have already thought about this and have it stored away for the near future. If they are successful in the assault weapons ban they will go after scoped rifles and pump shotguns next.

Before the antis can accomplish any of their goals they need to get registration and identification of gun owners into a federal data base. They learned from the 94 ban that it isn't enforceable if you don't know where the guns are and who has them.

As Ken Kesey said " NEVER GIVE A INCH."

I don't doubt for one minute...

....that their agenda is to get rid of guns, period. They will seize on any bit of progress (to them) to gain a foothold or even a toehold and it will be used as a wedge for further controls. Unless we fight for it.

I've been hearing calls for "sniper rifles" to be banned for more than a decade. I've even heard imbeciles claim that rifles should be banned if they're "too accurate".

In fact, I once had a Canadian long range rifle shooter tell me that "sniper rifles" should be banned. When I asked him what the MEANINGFUL difference between a Remington 700 and an M40 was, he of course couldn't tell me.

Yeah , awhile ago some enlightened , elected individual tried to have any rifle which could accept , or be made to accept , a telescopic sight , listed and banned as a snipers weapon.

So you have a left hand Model 12 too? I really like mine and it's a tack driver if I do my part.:D
Mine has a Redfield 3X9 scope and a Harris Bi-pod too.

I don't hunt, but thought now would be a good time to snag a deal I stumbled across on a long gun in the same caliber as our AR.

Target shooting might help keep me off the streets. ;)

As the ammo supply dries up, banning any kind of gun will become moot. The U.S. government, in particular the Dept. of Homeland Security, is buying up ammunition of all kinds by the truckloads ostensibly to stockpile for unknown purposes but more practically to create shortages in civilian markets. A very clever backdoor strategy that is getting little attention but is proving to be very effective in the "gun control" effort.

Today I bought one of two remaining .22LR bricks at the LGS. The owner says he is out of 9mm, .270, .306, .223/556 and most other calibers. Says distributors are cleaned out, too.

Mossberg makes a MVP bolt action rifle that uses AR-15 mags, Next summer they are introducing the rifle in 300 AAC Blackout, several guys have put new Blackout barrels on them. very nicely executed rifle by a company not known for good rifles.

Be careful that one may some day make the list also.
