The people hath spoken

If I take my samples outside an emergency room I can prove that almost 100% of motorcyclists will wind up in the hospital... ;)
Exactly. These surveys are meaningless.

Like mentioned above, the people at Faux News were stunned on election night because they chose to believe polls that they wanted to believe.

The County Clerks Association put out a position paper condemning this new Unfunded Mandate:

New York State Association of County Clerks 2013 Position Statement
___________________________________________________________

The New York State Association of County Clerks (NYSACC) has represented all 62 elected or appointed County Clerks within the State for over 75 years. Many County Clerks are responsible for filing pistol or revolver license records. The recent New York State gun legislation, and proposed chapter amendments, has potential impacts to the County Clerk's role when administrating the filing of pistol or revolver license records. NYSACC believes the following requests are necessary to follow for the safety and wellbeing of our residents:

1) NYSACC opposes any effort to make the county government responsible for now statutory five year recertification process. Any shift of this responsibility from the State Police to the county government would amount to an unfunded mandate on county taxpayers.

2) NYSACC opposes any effort to shift responsibility to county government regarding the rifle registry that is detailed in the Governor's SAFE act. Such a change would amount to an unfunded mandate on county taxpayers.

3) NYSACC opposes the imposition of any fees on New York State gun owners to finance the new provisions of the SAFE act.

4) Any costs associated with the implementation of the SAFE act must be borne by the State, not the local counties.

5) County Clerks support the continuation of the Pistol Permit Application, Amendments and files should be maintained at the county level.

6) County Clerks stress the importance of communication and transferring of information between the County Clerks, the State Police, NYS Mental Health and OCA.

7) Recognizing the fluid and quick changing nature of potential legislation on gun control, the Executive Officers of NYSACC are hereby authorized to issue a letter of opposition for any bill that attempts to enact the above mention actions.

This authority shall expire on December 31, 2013.

His team appears to be in full blown crisis management mode because of this tailspin due to this ridiculous law and the shady (some may deem "illegal") manor it was enacted. I hope he got the message from we New Yorkers who value our individual rights and respect both the laws of NY and the US Constitution.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter how illegal legislation is it's very difficult to get enough people to fight for it and actually have it repealed.

mc5aw,
I think that the part of the bill that requires a check for buying ammo will be a fiasco. There has been no guidance as to who will be setting it up, no finances specified for the start up cost etc..

They will find a way, a new ammo tax or increase prices on hunting licenses.

Politico has a story on a survey from Siena Research Institute....

65 percent of of those surveyed SUPPORT the new ban.

N.Y. poll: 65 percent back gun law - Katie Glueck - POLITICO.com

5 people in the gov. office took the poll, 3 voted yes. =65%

I'm a life long Ny'er. raised 15 mi. from here. I think the new "law" about ammo purchases will have to be drawn up by the State Police Commandant, who will have to have the Gov. lawyers help. then it "should" be voted on as it is a new law. and as the State Police don't have money in their budget for legalese it might be a WHILE BEFORE THE CONGRESS CAN VOTE THEM SOME.

guess i'll talk to my State rep.(all three of my reps voted agin the ban) see if she can shed some light on this for me.

Aloha,

As a friend pointed out,

What happens IF there is 100% Compliance with the registration and

EVERYONE of the 1,000,000 gun owners show up DEMANDING to register at the SAME TIME on the SAME DAY? All or Nothing registration

Or if by mail do what the Canadians did. Get the form go to the post office and send in a blank form Registered Return Reciept etc, Proving that they sent in the form(no return address).

Law-Abiding Unregistered Firearms Association - Fight C68/Firearms Act Canada

In the end it cost the Canadian government Billions of $$$ and the program ended Badly.

After all, aren't we all good Law Abiding citizens?

The Canadians were able to pull that off before "social media" took off. There is no reason New Yorkers and any other tyrannical State citizens couldn't do the same thing.

Several hundred thousand people lined up at one building in Albany would be something to see. Even better in New York.

Doesn't surprise me. I think the number might be a little low.

There was a thread around here about people moving from NY to to PA where the folks supposedly better understood freedom..

Poll results for PA looks pretty much like NY

95 - 5 percent for requiring background checks for all gun purchases
60 - 37 percent for a nationwide ban on the sale of assault weapons
59 - 39 percent for a nationwide ban on the sale of magazines with more than 10 rounds.

Here's detail of the questions/answers.

Pennsylvania (PA) Poll * January 30, 2013 * Pennsylvania Voters Want Stric

Here's a Fox News national poll that pretty much tells the same story.

Got the following from our local guy. Who knows how far it will go, but Cuomo has no supporters outside of Albany and NYC.

*********************************************************

No More Midnight Bills - Lalor to Cosponsor Governmental Transparency Act

Albany, New York: Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I - Fishkill) announced today that he will be cosponsoring the NYS Governmental Transparency Act. The bill, introduced by Assemblyman Jim Tedisco, is a response to Governor Cuomo's repeated abuse of the system to rush bills through the legislature, often in the middle of the night.

"Nothing good happens after midnight in Albany," said Lalor. "There is no need to pass legislation in the dark of night. When legislators are literally hiding the process from the light of day, they are up to no good. Every debate, every bill and every vote needs to see the light of day. This bill will prevent the governor and his friends in the legislature from ramming laws through while New Yorkers sleep."

In the past two years Cuomo has repeatedly circumvented the constitutional requirement that the legislature wait three days after a bill is drafted before a vote. The governor has abused his ability to issue "messages of necessity" when an emergency requires the legislature to vote sooner by stretching the definition of an emergency beyond its limit. The governor has then proceeded to rush significant bills through the legislature in the middle of the night. The proposed law would stop the clock on all legislative proceedings between midnight and 8 a.m except in the case of genuine emergencies. A two-thirds majority of the legislature would be needed to determine that an emergency existed and that the rule could be waived. The governor's abuse of messages of necessity would also be reined in with a requirement that two thirds of the legislature agree that an emergency exists.

Lalor continued, "Governor Cuomo has made a habit of rushing major legislation through in the middle of the night. It's a bad habit that often leads to bad laws. The flawed and unconstitutional midnight gun bill is just the most recent example. Last year, bills covering redistricting, casinos, pension reform and teacher evaluation were all passed in the cover of darkness. Sunlight is good for government, good for policy, and good for democracy."

"The state constitution mandates that the legislature take three days to review a bill for a reason. Voters and legislators need the chance to read a bill before a vote. Governor Cuomo has set a bad precedent with his abuse of messages of necessity. This legislation will force future governors to respect transparency in government. "

Doesn't apply in NYC. If you drive to LaGuardia or JFK from another state to take a flight and declare a firearm, you'll get arrested. Same if you have any type of contact with a cop while driving thru and your firearm is discovered.

Its amazing how much it changes depending on where you are. On the day I picked up my M&P AR-15 I got pulled over by an officer for a minor traffic infraction :) and I had it in the box in my back seat. I told him it was there b/c I figured it was better to say it was there then act as though I was hiding it. He asked if it was loaded I said nope, he ran my info came back to my car and off I went.

We all need to remember this Governor and make sure that he is never elected to be any thing for any office. Someone should be doing research on him to see what kind of person he really is.

I could tell you exactly what kind of person he is but the mods would most certainly haul me off to the wood shed! :D

Let me just say that his politics are driven by a strong personal, progressive agenda as his governance and legislation would confirm.
