I like M&Ps. I have enough ammo to keep shooting them for awhile but...

I not only want an M&P 22 but would like one as well but I'm hesitant on getting one.

The positives to me are: more trigger time for less money, threaded although I don't have a can its a nice options, similar to full size m&p instead of being a unique model like a Ruger Mark pistol, it would fill an emergency backup pistol role for me as well as being a good trainer, they are available locally for $380-$420 and perhaps a bit less online.

The negatives to me are: the sights (I want them to be the same as the full size), unavailable mags, the gun doesn't 100% feel like the full size/centerfire model, I don't like mag disconnect safeties but also don't like removing them when they "belong" in a gun.

So what do you think? I am finding more and more reasons to get one and am closer to picking one up. Perhaps I'm just waiting until 9mm is readily available again!

It's the closest thing you'll get to match your other M&P's. Change the sights but I like that rear adjustable sight fine but am going with a front fiber optic. I have a 1911 and thought I'd like a .22lr in that type of gun but after holding the M&P22 I was in love with it. The mags will show up.

I changed out both sights for fiber optics and did a trigger cleanup.
It gets used in action shoots instead of my M&P9c and is a great way to train for less cost.

If you've held it you know how it feels. I got mine 2 weeks ago and love it. Don't shoot underpowered ammo till its broken in. I tried some Fed Target/1080 out the gate and was extremely depressed at the FTE/FTF rate . So bad I thought I had made a mistake. Switched to 1280 various ammo and have over 500 rounds through it now with no hiccups. I'm retired and own ten acres out of town so I can shoot when I want. I'm a long time hunter, rifle and shotgun, but this is my first handgun other than a pocket .25 I've had since 79. I got this piece to practice and then move up to the 9 mm when things calm down. Mags are available but you have to do some research to find them at a reasonable price. I got 2 last Friday for 31.00 each plus 10.00 shipping. Buy it already you won't be sorry!

get it..I got one so I could practice with & match my 9, 40 & 45...as far as mags. in a couple of mo. when this stupidness calms down they will be in stock besides I've been shooting my MK1 Ruger, 41 S&W & Buckmark for years with just one mag each & never lost any sleep..

Don't get one that way we don't have to listen to one more person rant and rave about, "how wonderful this gun is."
Seriously, you won't regret buying it, they're wonderful little guns! I haven't shot mine much, but it's extremely reliable and very accurate, even when suppressed! :D

Oh , I did replace the front sight with the Dawson F/O. Much better now. The original front was placed off center about a 32nd of an inch starboard. QC problem that others have reported as well.

Bought the gun three weeks ago and enjoy shooting it. I do plan to replace the sights eventually. Until I do, I painted white lines down the sides of the rear site similar to a block. I only have the one magazine but its a snap to load so not a big deal. Did I mention I really enjoy shooting this gun?

GET IT, I love mine. Just after I purchased it I called S&W customer service and told them I wanted to have matching sights on all my M&P's as this gun is used as a trainer. They were very nice and sent me a new rear sight at no cost and I swaped it out myself, now all 5 of my M&P have the same sight picture. I to was just using the one mag that came with it but last Friday I found 6 extra mags at a small local mom and pop shop in a shoe box....... over 5K down range and no regrets.

12 round mags are now available through Gallery of Guns.. There's another thread around here explaining how to use that site. They're sold through your local affiliated GS at their price. I got four for $147 shipped.

Still showing 99+ inventory as of 10:15 eastern time Sunday

So cross that significant major negative off your list...

It is a pretty good gun, but not worth $380+ when buckmarks and MKIIIs are $300. It's not even close to the same quality of the full size and you are going to have to blow even more money to get sights that don't suck...

I have had at least one FTF or FTE out of every 50 or 60 rounds from my M&P22. I blamed it on ammo til I recently got a Ruger SR22. With 180 rounds through the Ruger there have been absolutly no malfunctions. I still like the M&P, but am not thrilled with reliability so far. I have over 300 rounds through the M&P.

Get it. You will like it. Number one problem, hard to find spare magazines.

they're useless can't get through their website unless you're a dealer

I feel like your cons are nitpicky.

I'm using my sights off my FS9 to put on my 22 since I put TFO sights on the FS model. Problem solved. Or you can just switch out the rear sight on the 22 and problem solved.

Magazines: I have one right now. That's all I need for now; the magazine is pretty easy to load. I'll wait until the panic dies down and get a couple more.

As for feel - feels almost like the FS model. The only thing off a little is the weight. Replicates the FS model pretty well if you ask me.

In the end, I think once you get it, you'll realize what a great choice you made.

You have to choose....

Do you want MONEY or a NEW GUN.

Money sits in your pocket, gets sweaty in the summer, and who knows all the weirdos that have touched it before you did??? EWWW!!!

A new gun SMELLS good, you can load the mags and practice with it, you can call your buddy for some range time! You can enjoy the sunshine while shooting tin cans and while away memorable weekends, maybe even meet a couple of sexy babes at the range... :p

So there you have it, sweaty, no fun money:mad:
or way cool new gun! :D

The choice is obvious.

Think I'm going to go for it. Have a case of XM193 5.56 that I could sell to raise funds. Thought about trading it straight across but think I could get more out of it by selling it.
