I want to put some more accessories on my M&P AR-15 Sport, but with the solid front forend there is no way. My only way out is a new forend with rails. What is involved in changinbg it out, is it just a remove and replace deal or what? And what would be a good replacement for the factory stock forend?

The Owner's manual shows you how to remove it.

There are a bazillion different handguards/forends to choose........

It's very simple. YouTube it. I like the Magpul forend myself, that's what I used on my Sport. You can add rails to it, light mounts, sling mounts, etc. They are a great company and make quality, affordable accessories.

This is what worked great for me and the price is reasonable. Has a "How to" vedio to show you.

I changed my furniture on the sport to Magpul MOE. You can add rails to the handguard. If you want to add the magpul rail foregrip, it will come with a supplied rail to bolt on. If this is the route you choose, I suggestOtto Firearms LLC. As far as I have found, they have the lowest prices on the net plus $5 shipping.:) Hope this helps.

If you are going to apply rails to the stock handguard, be sure to get the tapered ones (on the above link, it seems the ones that come in sets of two are tapered).

I'm also interested in this. And I also really like the stock round front hand guard.

Adding rails seems to be my best option. Anyone done this to a stock round hand hand guard? I want something that is quality, but I still want to retain the stock look and ergonomics.

I've checked out the usual websites and it seems that there are a lot of different options - and some seem rather cheap. Anyone have a favorite?

I got mine from Amazon, free shipping, etc. I've seen a tool for sale that is recommended to depress the collar holding on the handguard. It's not necessary. You can do it your self or have someone depress the collar for you.
Best of luck

You could also just mount pieces of rail to the stock handguard. We have a thread about it, but I can't seem to locate it. Anyway, check out the below link to see a whole lot of add on rails that are available.

Those work fine for "small" stuff like a light,lazer.. Just be carefull and make sure the add-on rail has a good mount for the inside of the handguard. The stock handguards are good enough, but not what they use to be. Mine didn't come with a heat shield and "seemed" a bit lighter that the older ones.

This can be a good option if you don't plan on going overboard. :D

I originaly got the tapered rails for my Sport... but they where always SLOPPY so I went with the MFT M44s Mission First Tactical M44S 2-Piece Quad Rail Handguard AR-15 Carbine

The sport stock Grip dosent have the Heat Shield... my Bushmaster carbon 15 does and made the Rails Tight and not sloppy... so i added one to the underside and added a Angled Foregrip to It... It works real well on my C15

First thing I did with my Sport was to switch out the hand guard. As many have already stated the stock one does not have a heat shield. Besides the infinite number of quad rails that are out there, there are other options.

I chose do go minimal and go with the Magpul MOE. You can add only the rails that you need.
