walking dead question.

With all the rotting corpses laying around - where's all the buzzards/vultures? It is filmed in Georgia, right?

Dogs, coyotes, skunks, raccoons? No dead dogs & deer survived, so canines must have. Bears?

Rabies should be increasing like it did after the Civil War.

Ever read Max Brooks' "The Zombie Survival Guide"? It's explained in there. Basically, the animals stay away from infected flesh, as they can smell it and do not like it. Nor are they susceptible to the infection, so they are perfectly safe to eat.

A few things about the show don't make much sense to a native Georgian.

I guess that whatever happened happened pretty rapidly, leaving a lot of unattended homes and businesses. I live in a county about 100 miles South of the ATL, not unlike Woodbury. I'll guarantee you, I could gather up dozens of SKSs, 10-22s and various other 22 semi autos, not to mention the black rifles and ammo. We have about 10,000 people in our county, and I bet there are 5000 SKS rifles. No, I'm not exaggerating. No telling the real number, but I'm confident I could call around here in the county and locate 100,000 rounds of 7.62x39 ammo, and probably half-a-million rounds of .22lr between now and dark. My point is that difficulty finding ammo and/or guns after an event that suddenly took out 75% of the population just ain't going to happen in rural Georgia.

It looks to me like .22lr semi-auto rifles and handguns would be the weapon of choice for taking out zombies. In a group of ten people, three designated "head-shooters" with a couple of Marlin 60s/Ruger 10-22s or even lever action 22s, with a couple of folks loading for them, could handle a fairly severe zombie attack. I guess hi-velocity solids would be the ammo of choice.

In the early seasons..... I kept thinking " People are bugging out......

I bet 70-80% of the cars on the highway would have at least one/ more likely 2-3 guns and a few hundred rounds of ammo in it..."

Now that I think about it 50% of the zombies should be packing a handgun in/on their belt or a ccw

The Prison's loading dock is a perfect practice range w/ a .22lr....... kind of like a 1890s shooting gallery.....LOL The sounds of the shots would bring in all the zombies within ear shot....good way to clean up the neighborhood!

It really helps that the zombie's skulls are going soft over time......"splat".......a 110 lb woman can shove a 4inch knife right through the top of the skull.........a Ruger markII with a can for everyone!!!!!

Every Sunday night my 15 year old says "Dad .... come on it's time for the Walking Dead". Oh well bonding is bonding.......

I admit to really being hooked on this show. I ignored it for the first season and one day while the War Department was gone all day I decided I'd give it a try. And I do not watch any horror/monster flicks anymore.

Anyhow I started watching the re-runs of Season 1 and got terribly hooked. Then I started on Season 2.

I think the show, overall has been very well presented. I do believe that in the apocalypse described there would have been plenty of weapons. I'd be cautious of using a .22 on the "Walkers". A miss and they might be on you, and remember a "grazing tooth bite" and you're a goner.

I'm liking the baseball bat routine. One blow and splat! With a short-handled axe or knife you could get it stuck in a skull and now you are in the "danse-macabre" (as I have heard it pronounced) with ONE "Biter" while others may flourish around you. As well a short handled "bum" might just get too close for comfort.

I'm thinking Milton roasted the Zombie patch of Woodbury.

Whaddya'll think is going to, or has happened to the blonde girl (Andrea?) I bet the Governor was saving her for Michone to watch his dirty deeds and then he wants to finish off Michone after.

I want Daryl to put "bolts" from his crossbow into each kneecap and elbow of the Governor. As he is "put-to-ground" Daryl nonchalantly climbs aboard an edifice just tall enough to be away from the "Walkers". As they descend on the Governor Daryl says, quiet calmly, "You killed my brother."

How much you wanna bet the Governor gets even more disfigured, or beat up, but survives with episodal question marks for the next season?

Plus..........how soon are they going to run into one or more "Walkers" who have some, or several human capabilities?

Here's something to roast your noodle... Both the governor and Rick naturally speak with British accents... completely blew my mind when I heard them speak outside of character.

Arik I agree on the swedish and swiss rifles I have several and bunch of ammo for them too..but the 8mm rifles I have are dead on and will do head shots easy. I hope the gov gets his and gets it good. he is nut case big time.

So is Lenny James . (Morgan. The black guy with all the guns who saved Rick in season 1)

As cool as the show is....it is still hollywood.

People want to see AR's and large caliber pistols, tho I am supprised at the lack of AK's.

Actually i think overall its a fair representation of guns. No one is running around with gold plated Desert Eagles .50. There have been ARs, AKs, 3rd gen Smiths, Glocks, Sigs, revolvers, hunting rifles even a HiPower

So does Lauren Cohan (Maggie). She said that both Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and David Morrissey (Governor) try to stay in character all week using their southern accents. She said then you see Lincoln on the weekends cleaned up, wearing his glasses and speaking in his normal English accent. She said it was a little weird.

BTW, someone mentioned Rick's Python. Apparently Andrew Lincoln loves that gun and the only time they can get it away from him is when it's time to lock it up. If he's on the set, he's got the Python with him because he says it helps him stay in character.

You know...talking about English and diseases i'd love to see Hugh Lorie (Gregory House) on a season

I think you missed something. Everyone is infected.

Shuutr,

Yes they are. If they die they come back as a Zombie. But, if a Zombie bites you, even a tooth-scrape, you will get a fever and turn Zombie yourself. That's why they cut off of what-his-name's (the white-haired veterinarian) leg. He got bit in the leg.

Know the little, 16 year old girl? She is actually 29 years old, and has been in TONS of movies because she looks so young.

That was more than a scrape. But I thought in the rush to catch up you missed the part where you don't have to get bit. I was wrong, you didn't miss it.

Yeah, felt a little less guilty when I found out that little tidbit.
