Shield 9 Self Defense / CC ammo

That data will be good for that one gun only. A sample size of one cannot be extrapolated to the whole population, i.e., all Shields. Think of the SD! Nor can data from other M&P models be extrapolated to the Shield. It's a unique gun. A significant sample size needs to be addressed. A further complication of +P+ ammo is the fact that each brand varies since there is no standard for +P+. So, even if one type were to be declared safe in a particular gun, this finding couldn't be applied to any other types of +P+.

I recommend that anyone concerned stick with the recommendations of S&W, namely that +P is OK but might accelerate wear or require more servicing. And, that +P+ is simply NOT to be used, not even a little bit. See page 11 of the Shield owner's manual.

Safe advice.

But, companies like Underwood sell all of the +P+ they can run.

Kind of like shooting reloads. The manual says not to, but millions of rounds of reloads are run though M&Ps every year without problems.

I'm not saying there are no reload related problems, and I'm not saying your gun won't wear faster if you shoot +P+.

It never hurts to just follow the manual...

Sometimes it's just fine not to...

I doubt the object of your hostile fire would know the differance between Plus P and Plus P Plus. LE uses the hotter ammo for various reasons that civilians generally do not face or have to overcome. Would the Shield become inoperable if used with nn reccomended ammo? I doubt it but I suppose it could. For routine practice I use standard ammunition and for carry I will rely on the Plus P in this weappon. I will save the hotter ammo for a Glock if I carry that. Just my thoughts friends.

I agree. I carry 147g+P. I run 357 sig when I'm on my bicycle and I am concerned about barrier penetration.

There clearly is a market for +P+(and it's a niche I'm happy to supply one day), and the day I linked to it that Winchester Ranger +P+ was the best deal in proven SD ammo available online. That what what prompted my comment.

CC ammo for Shield 9mm

I carry two different loads. One for colder months and one for warmer months. In the warmer months, I'll carry the speer gold dot 124gr +P. In the winter months I carry the Winchester Ranger T 147gr. I have done testing with both and expansion is adequate on both rounds out of the 3" barrel. No feeding issues or malfunctions.

+2 for the Hornady CD.

I use Hornady critical defense 115gr FTX.

I took several different boxes to the range and found the 115 Federal Personal Defense worked best for me.
