M&P 45c Failure To Feed

I'm having some issues with my M&P 45c and I think I have determined what the issue is from researching on here. I've run various rounds through it. AE 230 gr, Speer Lawman 230 gr, Winchester White Box JHP 230 gr, PDX1 230 gr, Federal Tactical Bonded +P 230 gr and Gold Dot 185 gr.

I've probably had about 5 or 6 FTF's in about 400 rounds, not bad, but not comforting either. I initially chalked it up to break in and a dirty feed ramp but after yesterday, I'm beginning to worry. Sometimes it happens when I go to rack the gun, sometimes while it's cycling. It's usually on the first or 2nd round. After researching a bit, it looks like it could be the extractor, but I also noticed something else.

I have been carrying the Federal Tactical Bonded for SD. When I got home I cleared the round I had chambered and noticed some damage to the rim of the projectile. I'm guessing this was from the feed ramp. Has anyone else seen this before? Will the round still function properly? I'm guess no, but I'm not expert.

Any help would be appreciated. In the meant time, I'm going to cycle some dummy rounds though it and if persists, I'm calling S&W.

Do remember to slingshot the slide.. bring to full rear then just let it go.. If you ride the slide cambering a round it could cause the issues your having and more with a new gun I break them in with hardball ammo at least 200 rounds before attempting any hollow points.. .. George

I always sling shot, though a couple of times I think it may not have been hard enough. The only time was getting the FTF's was on the ball ammo. What's troubling to me is the damage to the hollow point round. Maybe I should use different ammo?

No, it should feed HP. If not you have a problem somewhere

I cycled some dummy rounds through it tonight and didn't notice anything really. Everything worked fine. Here's some pics of the round that's kind of dinged up. Still a little bothered by this.

Have you determined if the FTF occurs with All or just one of your magazines. A bad mag might be the cause. I had the same problem with a 1911 mag.

I have 4, 8 rounders and 2, 10 w/extenders. I think it may have only been happening with the rounders. I'm going to get back into the range and make sure. All the mags have black springs with the exception of one purple.

How much 230gr FMJ ball ammo do you have through it. This ball ammo hits the feed ramp hard and glides right up it.. I feel it's the best for break in especially in a stubborn pistol.. My minimal break in rounds are 200 to 250 of FMJ hard ball before i feed JHP. I feel the ball ammo does a nice job on the feed ramp and gets all suffices going it the right direction smoothing them out as you shoot.. My.02 worth! This is what I always do with my 1911's no issues.. George

George, I got about 350 rounds of ball ammo though it. I usually like to break em in at 500. I got about 65 rounds of SD ammo though it too.

How dose your feed ramp look? How many mags do you have? Is it doing it with all your mags? Do you have your mags numbered? This is a good idea as it's easy to tell what one may be giving you issues now and in the future too..I do that with all my autos. Maybe take off your slide and post a picture of your feed ramp.. Only other idea without seeing the gun I can think of is load all your mags fully and with your slide off see how each one Set's in the gun as far as the round and it's orientation to the feed ramp..Also with a empty round and your slide off the gun upside down slip the empty case under your extractor and see how the fit feel to you. I once had a gun with a tight fitting extractor that would cause feeding issues.. It was not a S&W. Be careful and clear all your mags and put the ammo away before assembling you gun just to be on the safe side.. George

I have six mags and have had it happen on all, but two that I haven't used yet. I went to rack it tonight, this time with Ranger T 230 gr and it jammed up. This guns going in, I just don't feel safe with it. Let's see what S&W says.

Nothing yet. It arrived in Springfield last Weds. and I haven't heard anything yet. I did go to the range the weekend before I sent it in and fired off 100 rounds, just to be sure. I had about 5 or 6 FTF's. Definitely something wrong and it's not the mags.

I suspect a combo of issues, one being the extractor, the other being the feed ramp. I do miss the gun though.

Looks like a tight fit under the extractor but hard to see in that picture. But the feed ramp did it's job the round is in the chamber. My Beretta 1934 had the same issue with US ammo but shot fine with the Italian made ammo.. The extractor just needed a little tuning but would jam just like your gun.. it was rare to get through a few mags with out a jam. I fix it about 10 years ago and function has been 100%.. I suspect S&W will do you right. George

That picture is of my gun, not the OP's. Mine has been fixed. I was just wondering if the OP had the same problem.
