I am planning to start loading for my model 57-1 .41 mag but am having a difficult time finding much load data in my Lyman 49th and Speer 13 manuals.

Do any of you .41 mag loaders have any manuals that you prefer that contain more than a couple bullet/powder options in them?

Mine are also data-poor on this caliber. Best site I have actually used is the online hodgdon.com data.

Hope others chime in. My Lee manual about 10 years old has mostly jacketed loads.

I have been loading for more than 3 decades now. No matter what the cartridge, you can't have one manual.

Personally I like to just read them sometimes. Get the different perspectives on a cartridges development, etc.

Most of my newer manuals are at the other house but the ones here are as follows:

Speer #12 has 4
Lyman #44 has 4
Lyman #48 has 5
Lyman Cast #4 has 4
Hornady 3rd has 1
Hornady 4th has 2
Modern Reloading 2nd has 12
Alliant 2000 has 3
Alliant 2002 has 3
Alliant 2005 has 3
Alliant 2010 has 4
IMR 2001 has 2
IMR unknown has 2
Winchester 2001 has 2
Vihtavuori 2002 has 2
Vihtavuori 2012 has 2
Hodgen 2009 has 2
Accurate #3.5 has 9
Ramshot has 7

My advice is start with the powders that you have onhand and see what data those manufacturers offer.

The go to the projectile that you have chosen to load and see what those guys offer.

You always have the user contributed sights line Handloads.com. They have many loads. However you need to temper what you read against experience or manuals

Try Lyman "Pistol & Revolver Reloading Handbook". Also remember that there aren't a lot of options for factory 41 mag bullets, so this caliber often gets a swing and a miss, as far as data goes.

I have copied reloading articles out of magazines for many years and keep them sorted by caliber. As the 41 is one of my favorites, I have many articles on that caliber.

Thanks for the replies folks! I have ordered Lyman "Pistol & Revolver Reloading Handbook" and "Modern Reloading 2nd." I will order the Load Data book when it comes available.

I too enjoy reading reloading manuals but wanted to make sure I was ordering some that would contain data that I could use. There is not a lot of selection where I live that would allow me to browse a manual and decide if it is pertenent to me and my loading. Your suggestions should provide enough information for me to begin working up some loads for the .41.

Thanks again!

Hodgdon.com has about 50 recipes for the .41 rem. mag.

What more does a guy need?:D

Between that website and add in Accurate and Alliant sites, pretty much all combinations are covered. Depends on the powders you like to use.

1978 Speer Manual, found on Ebay for a couple bux. 20 loads for 2 different bullet weights. Cool old book. Flea markets are your friend for these old books, CHEAP :)

Lyman #49 has 4 jacketed bullets running from 170gr to 220gr with a bunch of powders. Lyman Cast Handbook #4 has 4 Cast bullets running from 185gr to 220gr with a half dozen powders to choose from.

I have a 1975 Speer that has a few loads, you might check the one on ebay. A 210 grain JSP,JHP with 21.5 grains of 296/H110 works fine in mine.

+1 for the Loadbook manual - all the information from the different sources are in one place.
