Senate does right: NO expanded checks

finally the good guys win one. but, it's nowhere near over.

Just to prove how contrary they can be, the Senate also just rejected the Grassley Amendment that mental health records should be standardized and included in NICS. it also would have enhanced penalties for straw purchasers.

This will ensure that murders such as Seung-Hui Cho (Virginia Tech; 32 killed, 17 wounded) Nidal Malik Hasan (Ft. Hood; 13 killed, 29 wounded), Jared Lee Loughner (Tucson / Gabby Giffords; 6 killed, 12 wounded) James Eagan Holmes (Aurora; 12 killed, 58 wounded) will continue to slip through the cracks and runners such as the fast-n-furious actors only get a smack on the wrist.

Would a Vet being treated for PTSD be allowed to own a gun under this bill? I think getting rid of gun free zones would help do away with a large amount firearm related mass murders.

This is one of the best bits of gun news yet. Usually, when bad laws have been passed, it is in the wake of emotion following a mass shooting. This time, despite the best efforts of the other side, we won! :) The issue won't even get to the House.

I intend to thank my Senators for doing the right thing. Remember, followup is as important as voting threats and general expression of your feelings.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-TX, has been a rock for us, and deserves special thanks.

Ain't nobody came a callin' to my house to ask me what I thought. Where the hell did they get that number?

where does the media "pull out" any stories they spew out to the public?? if I give the correct answer, I will get a demerit

What we need to do is fix what we already have on the books and not go throwing a lot of new stuff around that might be poorly thought out and contradictory to already existing laws. God only knows how I wish I could come up with a solution to keep the weapons out of the hands that shouldn't hold them.

If anyone thinks this is the end on this matter, you have never spent any real time in Washington DC. This is only the beginning - keep your eyes open.

Good advise to "keep your eyes open"....but, this has been going on since 1934 (google: National Firearms Act of 1934). Liberals have been trying to expand their gun-grabbing ever since.

Except for me, maybe im the only person in this world that has never bought a gun from the internet or from a gun show without having to do a background check.

First of all, thank God it didn't pass!

Second, I never understood this baloney about "buying a gun
from the internet" without a background check. It's just more propaganda from the left and anti-gun folks.

Each time I bought a gun from Gunbroker or similar site, Cabelas(where they shipped it to a store here in Oregon)I had
to have it shipped to an FFL who did the transfer, background check.

Wondering if Mark is taking Gabriella to the range over weekend so they can try out the new AR15 :D

I don't believe the battle is over and it will continue while Obama is in office. Illinois has the toughest gun laws in the country with no concealed carry and he will push to do the same and more everywhere. This was the first time his wishes weren't met and he's furious.

Let us pray that the Boston terrorists bombs are not in any way connnected to a homegrown "guns right fringe group" or we are in for symbolic posturing and oneupsmanship like we've never seen before.

The story will change now that the Black Suburbans have arrived.

LOL...just watched it. They had it on Cam & Co. and on the local news. The basic tone was....we were all "Bad Americans" for defeating this.

Sadly, both VA Dem's voted for it. They didn't get my vote before, nor will they ever.

As some people like to say, "who voted for those people?" ;)

Va, sure ain't what it used to be.

I'm going to be sure and send Bill Nelson a thank you...for nothing. I admit to have voting for Bill in the past because I always thought he was the lesser of two evils. Now I think I would vote for Ol' Nick himself instead of Nelson.
