Looking at that has made me feel as good as I have felt in days. That is trick!

Humpback hammer and custom stocks as well as very precise and particular engraving, too. Do you have any idea of the artist who cut the steel?

I can't make out any features on the rounds in the stocks. Do they have monograms or designs?

Do you know if the hammer is part of the originally shipped package? If it was, you would expect a high serial number since the HBH was available only in the last couple of years of the 1930s.

I'm really impressed. Congratulations!

David,

I am glad to give you a little up lifting...

The serial number is 672993 and Roy says it shipped August 1938.

I just received it yesterday and i have no history, or artist.
I was hoping someone would recoginize the art and set me on the right road for research.

Glad to see ya back, you are still in my prayers.

Regards

Very nice. The stocks appear to have the same floral pattern found on old Southwest Cutlery/Murad bakelite target grips.

I was hoping a forum member got that. I really wanted it, but the budget was tight this month. Enjoy, she's a beauty. Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind - PM me what you would have gone to on it. I always wonder if I should have gone $50 more or not. I believe this is Kuhl engraved gun is it not?

Rich,

I doubt I shoot this one, there is no sign of a turn line on it.

gdogs,

I woke up the morning it was ending and I said that one is coming home so I guess I would have gone as far as it took (within reason).

Glad I stopped then. I still think you made one heck of a buy. I'd put it's value well above twice what you paid. I would certainly insure it for that much.

Now that Gdogs mentions it, that sure looks like Orville Kuhl work to me. He was just down the road (or maybe across a bridge -- not sure) from King. Both guys worked in the San Francisco Bay area, which is certainly suggestive.

Just further evidence that California and good guns are not mutually exclusive after all. :D

Mitch:

I have two words to describe that gun - "Very Snazzy"!:D A bit on the gaudy side, BUT I really like it!!!

I'm glad that I did not see it at auction - I probably would have kept bidding and cost you a bunch of $'s when I finally dropped out.

BTW - what auction site was it on? I usually don't miss the O/D's, especially ones that pop like that.

Great catch. I too think the engraving is consistent with other Kuhl guns that I have seen. There are several RM's floating around here with similar engraving.

Congrats!!!

Richard,

Thanks for not seeing it, it was on GB and listed as a K22.

"Snazzy" is that 29-2 of yours that Mr. Flannery engraved and inlaid.. And iced on top with Ivories.
He lives here in KY and on of the days I'm going to go visit him and see his studio.

Thanks!

Mark,

You are correct, that box belongs to a K22/40 Masterpiece, second model that there were only 1067 or so of in 1940. Good eyes, I was wondering who would catch it.

Richard,

Thanks for the information, and it does appear to belong in that family.
