Diamond grips

I have a Model 36, round butt which I prefer in this snubbie and diamond grips. The serial is 352XXX and i just got curious about when the diamond grips ceased. This one has a flat latch. Just curious on timing...

S&W issued change orders in October 1965 and January 1966, respectively, to delete the diamond around the escutcheon and nut on all stocks except target stocks. Stocks without the diamond appeared shortly thereafter in 1966.

Your serial number likely shipped in mid-1965 . . . the flat latch disappeared in mid-1966 . . . and

. . . stocks without the diamond appeared shortly thereafter in 1966.

SCSW says for the model 36 the end of the flat-latch was in 1966, the end of the diamnd grips in 1968

Target stocks for N and K-frame revolvers were replaced by target stocks without a diamond by January 1969. However, Magna stocks had the diamond deleted much earlier (1966).
