For $1,000, what firearm would you buy?

a Glock or M&P and two cases of ammo... that wasn't on your "prohibited" list :)

if I were new to firearms I'd get a Glock or M&P, one case of ammo, and a decent class/instruction

I passed on a 629 Performance Center 8-3/8" Siloutte pistol for that money a little ways back, if I had a grand to throw away frivolously I'd call him back to see if it was still available. I'd probably have another muzzleloader built to match my last one except in flintlock, I might have to kick a few bucks extra.

I just paid an even $1K for a wartime commercial broomhandle with a German military acceptance stamp. It's sorta ratty on the outside, but the bore is perfect. Took a little work with a Dremel to prevent the magazine floorplate from falling out when fired. If I were selling it, I'd put it out on the table at $1500, but I don't plan to sell it.

Added pictures.

I bought a Luger like that once. About 5 years ago i stumbled upon it at my LGS. At one point it had massive amount of pitting where the safety is. That part had been re blued. It was a BYF 42 with matching #s and the inside was MINT. Everything, even the barrel, was spotless and no import markings. For the asking price of $299 i took a chance. Gun shot everything...wolf, tula, blazer, hp....everything (i did not use +p). Eventually i sold it for the same price

Hypothetically, if you had an extra $1k to spend on a new or used firearm, what would it be? $1k is the max spending limit, with a downside of $50 +/-, meaning no purchasing two $500 guns, or one for $800 and pocketing the change. There's several items on my wish list in the $1k price range, so I'd drop the $ on either a NIB Colt New Agent in .45 ACP or Cimarron Schofield in .45 LC. Alternately, I'd go with another used 696 or 624 snub. I'd love to find a 3" 625, but asking prices have gotten significantly higher from what I've seen.

You've got your hypothetical $s ... what would you buy?

I would find a nice pre Model 70 Winchester rifle in .257 Roberts. If that was not do able, I'd find the same pre Model 70 Winchester... in 7mm Mauser or else (can i be this boring) .270 Winchester. I grew up reading Jack O'Conner's articles in Outdoor Life. I very much enjoyed what he wrote as well as his opinions.

I would either buy another Colt Single Action Army or use the money to have a few sets of Ivory grips custom made for some special guns. I have not purchased a new gun in a few years and I am fairly content with the collection as it now stands. Maybe a little tweaking from time to time, but for the most part I am content - unless of course something just happens to fall in my lap. :)

A Beretta M-391 20 ga. should run about that amount, at least wih sales tax.

What's a near new S&W M-629-3 with six-inch bbl. sell for today?
