How scarce is the S&W model 64 with a 2 inch barrel? Is a
S&W model 10 with the bull barrel and round butt scarce too?

Popular demand is for tupperware semi-auto's, it seems the manufacturing of good old fashion wheel guns has taken a back seat through this buying spree, something I hope changes soon....

I was one of the lucky one's recently, being able to score a classic series Model-29, but the demand for big bore wheel guns isn't that high in south Jersey. .38/.357's are another story, they're as scares as hen's teeth right now.....

I've got a mint Model 10 with a two inch pinned barrel and a round butt frame. Great carry piece. I had one with a 2" pinned barrel and a square butt frame, too, but sold it last month. Already regret the sale. It was an old one (late pre-10 M&P), and in very sweet condition, having almost 100% of its original blue, and not a speck of rust nor a scratch on it.

Once they started putting the round butt frames on these, the square butt frame snubbies stopped being popular and thus production of them slowed down or stopped, so you don't see a lot of them with square butt frames after a certain date.

Yep.....Tupperware in 380 seems to be the hot number now, or about anything that shoots 9MM as long as it's "not too heavy". J-Frame pre-lock prices have been rising as well among some models. Some of the real guns seem dinosaur-ish in the eyes of many of todays trendy buyers, most of which never knew that at one time.....Smiths never had a lock.

You can see it at the gun show tables. The folks gathered around the all steel, or magnum revolvers doing the serious haggling are mostly gray-headed....or bald-headed like me......and they are rarely packing a purse.

The 2" model 64s are fairly common but not seen frequently in the current market. The vast majority of bull-barrel model 10s (-1, 3, 6, and 8) had SB frames but the later ones were RB.

The kids are buying plastic firearms because that's what the Glock marketing people 'give' to the local P.D.'s along with VERY generous trade in's on whatever they have.

Glock learned that for every LEO gun sold at cost, or below cost, many more sales would be generated in the private sector.

Some of you may remember when the military went to Beretta. Then EVERYONE had to have one. Glock is the new 'fad' and they will no doubt go the way of ALL fads.

Wheel guns won't come back to the military, and LEO's. Their job SOMETIMES dictates they need high caps, though the Marines, and most Special Forces switched back to the 7 shot Colt. Civilians? Well unless you are a bodyguard for a drug lord, doorman at a crack house, or Sargent at arms for a Hells Angels chapter, the odds are VERY slim you will ever need any weapon let alone a high cap.

For civilians the 'six for sure' rule is the way to go.

Hi Mojave: Things are crazy now and maybe for a good while longer (who knows?), but I'm still having fun . . . hope you are too. I'm interested in a bunch of guns, but the 696 44spcl really is appealing to me and quite rare to find (or maybe better, when one goes up for sale it's grabbed up quickly!). I'd also love to get my hands on a 629 -4 or -5 (-5 preferred) too, and then there's always the Model 67 38 spcl . . . Oh well, I guess that's why we call it a hobby (Why? Because if we didn't, it'd be some sort of spurious addiction that the far left would try to control . . . Hmmm).

BTW: I live in NoHo a few clicks south of you, assuming your 'handle' locates you.

Well, there are three pages of Model 10 auctions on GB, but only 1 page of Model 64s. Both of these guns were sold as police surplus over time, and you should be able to find a decent shooter at a decent price. Unfortunately, I now feel a need for a Model 10 2 in, and am going to have to go now and find exactly what I want.

Don't worry about how scarce they are, just keep shopping, be patient and something you want will show up soon.

I have 5 of the m64 2 inch. AND,,,,, They all shoot real well for me. Am about to get rid of my 1911 Rock Island CS Officers Model pistol and stick to just revolvers.

I don't see many revolvers on the three local guns-for-sale websites that I check every day, and most of the ones I do see are IL j-frames (no thanks) or similar late-model stuff. I like vintage J (and K) snubs, preferably pinned-barrel-- unfortunately very few of those come up for sale locally.

I Resemble that Remark!!!! LOL I guess I am one of the lucky ones, as I still have a few gray hairs left.

I don't own a single plastic gun either, and I doubt I ever will

I've been looking high and low for a S&W K/L frame .38 Special or .357 Magnum, blued or stainless, at pawnshops, gun and sporting goods stores. So far, zipnada. So I'm still keeping my options fairly broad and a sharp eye open.

Bud's has 4" Model 10s in round and square butt. If I was wanting one real bad I would consider buying one in a round butt and having the barrel replaced with a 2". Site rules do not allow posting a link, but the price is $279 shipped. I got one in 3" and am happy with it. I am about to send it off to Jeff Flannery to have it engraved. When he is done it will look like a brand new engraved gun.

I picked up a 2" 64 a couple years ago at J&G Sales. Mine has the standard tapered barrel. I have never seen a 2" with a bull barrel 3" and 4" but never a 2". Either way a snubby 64 is a great gun. Mine is DAO with a factory bobbed hammer.

In my experience, yes, 2" K frames are pretty hard to find - especially at reasonable prices.
