Current Direct TV Customers

What has your experience been with them lately?

Had a bad experience with them a few years ago but really miss the programming and HD quality. Thinking of giving them another try.

I've had Direct TV for several years because there is no cable service
out in the country where I live so my choices are limited. I have no
complaints other than they steadily increase their fees. I see their ads
and I don't know where the ad prices come from because they are a
far cry from what I actually pay.

Every time my contract is up I always get them to give me an HD DVR or other equipment in exchange for another agreement. A few months ago they gave me the Genie and receivers.
If you do go with them get the additional insurance on the equipment. I lost several TVs and receivers a few years back to a lightning strike that hit near our house. They replaced almost every receiver for zero out of pocket. I have also had several receivers go out over the years and they always replace them with no problem.

They've always been good to me and I've been a customer since 96 or so.
Out here in the boonies they're pretty much the only game.

It's been ok so far. Just signed up this spring for the first time. My free offer of most of the channels is about to expire, so I have to choose a package before it rolls over to get all of them.

i started out on dish..went with direct tv after 6 years because it was cheaper($5 a month...i'm cheap)...i ended up paying to end my contract because i lost signal all of the time and my dvr-ed shows would get stuck in a loop that i could not get past that point.

so when dish lost the walking dead i went back to direct...i hate it...i basically have the same programming that i had with dish, but once my signing bonuses expire, i'll be at $31-$32 a month, and i still lose signal a lot easier due to weather. when it gets closer time to my contract being over, i will buy it out again and go back to dish...

I've been with them since the mid-nineties. The TV game is, well, just that. Once you've put some time in with them, you need to call in to customer retention yearly to "renegotiate" some current discounts. A bit of a pain but it's the same game for Dish, FIOS, UVerse, ............. Check out dbstalk.com

BTW, I think their picture quality is the best in the game but they can also be the higher priced option.

I've had DirecTV for a couple of yrs. I very rarely lose signal, even in some pretty bad storms. Even when I do, it returns rapidly [Middle TN]. I juggle the programming occasionally when I get the high bills to offset the costs and lower the bill, and they have been pleasant and helpful in doing so. Equipment works great, so is the picture, but like ALL of them, it ain't cheap. The ads all say you can get all these glorious features for $30/mo but my bill always hovers around $100. If they would just get 'their own' internet I would be happier.

You might want to investigate moving your dish/antenna to a different location at your house. Is there a tree or some other obstruction? The dish needs to "see" a specific portion of the sky.

Another possibility is getting the larger 1.2 meter dish which is normally used for reception in Alaska and Hawaii.

nope, nothing there either time...two different houses...signal is/was around 95% at both locations...the slightest little rain, dusting of snow would put the signal out with direct tv...i've never had to clean snow off of the dish satellite...it was in the same place at the first house...the direct tv tech said there was nothing wrong, nothing blocking it, nothing they could do...

I also have been with them since the mid 90's when you had to buy your own equipment. I have had several receivers go out, of course you have to go through their textbook test before they send you a new receiver or service tech out to replace the dish. I always had the replacement within a couple days, hated to lose some of the recorded movies but what the hey. Not cheap but what now is. I am happy with them, and yes I still lose signal sometimes when a bad storm is in the area but not as much as when I had cable years ago, but it only last a little while. Oh BTW when we have power outages for days crank up the generator and still get programing, don't know if cable still works, but then again I could do without TV unless some classic movies are on TCM works for me.

The further north you go, the more atmosphere you're "poking through" and the more sensitive things can get! Look at the tables for adjustment angles to "hit the birds". Can't answer why Dish would be significantly different?

Have had DirecTV for several years. Works well. Problem is me. I just want a TV that I can plug in the power outlet, turn on, and watch the few things that I want to watch. Local channels, news and weather, some baseball and football games. Don't want to pay $120-180 a month for things that I don't need. Used to be you bought a TV and that was it, no monthly charge, no expense until you needed a new TV. Don't want to record anything. Don't want to see every movie ever made. And the constant repetitive commercials are awful.

Might as well mention the never-ending bundle offers for TV, internet, and telephone are awful!

And as far as it being "DirecTV," often I'll turn the TV on and can't even change the channel to get to what I want, because it is in power saver or some other mode, where there's a delay. Maybe there wouldn't be any delay, if I knew what button to push, but I don't want to study the instructions (if I could find them). I just want the thing to do what I tell it to do, right now. Direct TV my rear, can't even change the channel.

This mini-rant would have been more fun with the cursing that was left out. ;-) What a miserable racket television has become.

I've got them and I like them well enough. Bill runs 80-90 bucks a month for two HD receivers, and nothing else. Really too high to pay, but who else allows me to get up in the middle of the night, and shop for "adult toys" on at least five channels, all the while switching back to reruns of "Steven Seagal: Lawman" at the same time?

For me personally..

Nothing is wrong with the service. It's just too expensive for what you get. A few good channels, no premium channels, and an endless list of lousy channels.

I have direct tv for several years. the reception is good. the weather has to be pretty bad before the signal fades.

like the other satellite and cable companies, the available programs are mostly garbage, especially between 1am and 5am.

Went from cable to Directv several years because the cable truck was always either here or somewhere else in our neighborhood....
Direct has had to come here twice - Once to install it initially and again when we upgraded to hi-def.
We do loose the signal during bad storms, but I can still pick up Memphis or Jackson (either is about 50 miles away) on rabbit ears for the weather - So I'm good....

I've been with them a long time. I'm mostly satisfied. I don't get everything as it would cost too much if I did. When the system goes out due to weather I just go play on the computer. (DSL)
