No kidding. A genius who works at U California San Diego wrote "Gun Geo Marker", an Android App that Google has allowed in the Play Store that:

"invites users to mark the homes and businesses of 'suspected unsafe gun owners … to help others in the area learn about their geography of risk from gun accidents or violence.' "

"As a gun owner myself, I want to see our rights preserved, and thwarting the will of 90 percent of the American people who want common sense, Constitutional measures to improve gun safety is mathematically unwise," Stalbaum said.

Personally I want proof this guy is a "gun owner", more than just having maybe inherited one that he's never shot.

Just how does flagging someone as a dangerous gun owner improve gun safety in that home? How does this make children safer? Is he naive enough to think people will use it to only flag "dangerous" gun owners, and how would those people determine someone is a dangerous gun owner versus a non-dangerous one?

IMO this guy will never understand the danger of what he is doing, but it wouldn't bother me if 4-5 million gun owners tried to explain it to Google. Of course Google is already pretty strongly anti-gun, taking guns and related items down from Google Shopping, so I doubt we'll get a lot of sympathy.

I agree shouldazagged but he still is an idiot and then some.

If any people are actually flagged by this app, I can foresee a slew of lawsuits against both the author of the app and the person(s) marking places including deformation of character, and reckless endangerment among other things. Another liberal egghead who refuses to see the danger in such an app.

I believe Louisiana just signed into law protections against "outing" gun owners. I haven't read the law, could narrowly focus on government data or only deals with certain groups doing it, etc., but I'd be curious to see if any of that law applies anywhere. Other states have been pursuing similar legislation.

This is wholly irresponsible, dangerous, and naive. if a person really thinks someone is endangering a child with poor firearm safety or otherwise he should CALL THE AUTHORITIES, not download a phone app and post about it, and this guy claims we're the ones risking children? Of course people don't make those calls b/c then they have to be responsible. The police or social services will require a level of proof. This can be done anonymously with no evidence whatsoever.

If it is allowed then everyone should just go on and flag every house in their state, state capital and public officials more the once, banks, graves in the cemetery flood them with so much information maybe it will overload. At the very least no one will know where guns are or are not. Don't forget to extra mark feinstein's house and office the most along with the white house.

Yep, it was signed into law 2 weeks ago by Jindal. It is now a federal offense with a prison sentence for anyone to publicly list/post any of the info.

Hate to say this, but, I get a certain amount of gratification when guys like this do stupid things like this. Just proves that no matter how much I screw up, there's always someone dumber than I am.

This guy's home address and phone number is listed in the white pages. Wonder how that's working out for him.

Dangerous Gun Owner's App

Some of you may have seen this: Gun Geo Marker app tries to locate homes, businesses of gun owners | Fox News

Honest, it's for real-I checked it out. Anyone can put you on the map as being a Dangerous Gun Owner. My personal plan is to find out the addresses of every public official in town, go around to their homes, and list them as Dangerous Gun Owners. I may also do the same for every fire station , police station, cemetery plots, retail stores, and anyplace else I can think of to flood the database.

It sounds like this would be an easy app to sabotage since there is no way to confirm gun ownership; it's all suspected. If this sees fruition (and is able to navigate around some state laws like Louisiana's) and someone "outs" you then confuse the matter mark every house in your neighborhood as a gun owner. If this will function like Wikipedia, where anyone can post information without confirmation, it will fail miserably.

People have been messing with it already. Someone flagged a cemetery. I downloaded it yesterday to, just for fun, flag local golf courses, ice cream shops, police departments, day cares .....i live in an uppedy area. But the app would show my location was in Fairfax Va  . Its off by a bunch of states

And to think theire are some sex offenders that arent on the sex offender database. Why cant people just worry about things that need worrying about instead of sticking thier uppity noses in to other poeples business.

I had lunch with a Jehovah's Witness friend of mine I've worked with for 12 years. Every once in a while I'll push a button with him that sets him off on "people don't need this or that and people need to understand and follow their views."

Normally with people like that I take one of two options. Walk away or push buttons till their heads nearly explode.

Today since his topic of admonishment was CCW, I prodded excessively until he turned red and changed the subject. It helped we were eating outside at a dive in a not-so-good part of town and I wouldn't give up my seat with my back to a concrete wall. He had to sit on the same side of the booth as me, really testing out his homophobia tolerance and he continued about how I didn't need a gun and we were perfectly safe.

Got back to the office and show him a CrimeReports.com page light up like a christmas tree in that very spot with multiple lunch time thefts. He was quick to point out none of them were murders...

If anyone publicly identifies me or other law enforcement professionals as "dangerous gun owners", I strongly believe there will be a law suit coming down the road.

Why not regular folk also? Everbody retires who lives long enough. This app is criminal period. Google has deep pockets they need to pay restitution to all of us for risking a public hazard on people in violation of constitutional rights. Probably jail time also.
