I apologize in advance if someone else already posted/asked this but didn't see it anywhere.

As I was getting closer to the house today, I was looking for a channel with music, which are few and far between up here. One of the few stations that always comes in is NPR, which I don't care for at all. The scanner kept stopping on it, and someone was talking about getting stand your ground laws repealed in states that have them, notably Florida.

I didn't listen to it. However, with all of the protests, riots, mobs, rants, calls for justice, rallying by "reverends," hyper pressure from the WH and DOJ with celebrities and elected officials who do not support the recent ruling with Zimmerman, ..... think such a thing could go anywhere?

I don't think FL has a taste for that sort of reactionary response. They've been reasonable gun friendly to date.

That said, that won't keep those who crave media attention from beating that drum for months to come.

Al Sharpton hasn't any thing else to crow about so he will bang this drum,,,,I still remember the Tawala Brawlly (spelling ???) thing and how he kept it going untill it was proved a hoax pure and simple. Jessie has been out of the news lately so he will ride the case untill it runs out of steam. The whole thing has no hero's. Of course Holder will keep his finger in the wind untill it plays out..JMO

In his press conference today, Fri. 7/19, Obama said much has been made of the fact Florida’s SYG was not used in Zimmerman’s defense. He also said that we need to consider if Florida’s SYG law gave Martin the right to shoot Zimmerman had Martin been armed. Obama opinioned that if it could be interpreted that it did then SYG laws should be repealed so as to encourage a less violent society.

I did not make that up. You can click on read the text of Obama’s press conference on MSN and probably other sites.

I think the Democrats are grasping at one more perceived opportunity to reduce gun ownership and self defense rights and that just like gun laws they’ll only get what they want in a few liberal states. More likely they’ll get nowhere because those states don’t have SYG laws.

I think it will affect the five states like Neb which have no or poorly defined castle doctrine/stand your ground laws.

So right... the anti-gun crowd is grasping. All current arguments are like Obama's: based on what-ifs, conjectures and might-have-beens just to stir up the masses. So unreal since SYG was not even a factor or consideration in the Zimmerman trial.

Politicians are about impossible to predict. It'd be silly to even try but here in Texas I believe that the "stand-your-ground" laws are safe. That's pretty much the attitude of Texans anyway as far as I'm concerned and not a a new concept by any stretch of the imagination.

I've never had to stand my ground but if that situation had ever come up I'd have done it instinctively and immediately...well before there were any laws on the books about it. Laws come and go but I still feel the same about it and don't see myself doing any different, ever.

They're still showing that 6 year old photo of whatisname and spewing the same lies that were either debunked completely or failed to be proved in the trial.

Somebody said something once about repeating a lie often enough...

Every time Al and Jesse can stir up something they make a lot of money off of it. We had a local case several years ago that they jumped on until it was proven that the victim killed himself in a very perverted way. Even though they ran off and were never heard of again Jesse still managed to sign up few more Rainbow Coalition members who eventually quite paying their dues after the "Baby Daddy" scandal. There is absolutely nothing honest about either of these guys. They're in it for the money and I think a lot of folks are finally beginning to realize this.

And the highlighted section above shows what "double speak" it all was. He is a master of it.

Martin was 17 and could not have legally been armed.
Gee wonder how it all would have played out then??

I am under the impression that Trayvon Martin could have been charged with assault with a deadly weapon had he not been shot and killed. He used a concrete sidewalk to bash Zimmermans head.

It is very unfortunate that some people preach divisiveness. A great deal of the president's support felt that electing a black man for president would bring the races closer. I think the president is wasting a great opportunity.

To me the real question is whether or not Holder will bring federal charges against Zimmerman. I was dismayed that the Florida governor had Zimmerman charged, but I now feel it was a good decision. With all the protesting going on now at least it can be pointed out that Zimmerman was tried and acquitted.

I'm gonna use my vote to stand my ground on stand your ground. I agree with the poster that said that SYG is instinctive and immediate.
Peace,
Gordon

The only state that seems to be moving in that direction is New Hampshire. New Hampshire has been trending steadily more liberal since the late 1990s, so it's not much of a surprise. Disappointing, but not surprising.
