Mags?

Nakanokalronin,
I find your position interesting. I train and practice self defense shooting regularly. My mags hit the ground all the time. My experience has been that the S&W mags are very robust. When I first started, years ago, I was worried about damaging my mags. Now I'm not so concerned about it.

I understand your frustration and desire to have parts available. I just hate to see someone not shoot because of it.

Complete RUMOR but my LGS guy was telling me that he heard S&W is going to release a huge amount of mags in or around August.

Who knows though. I'm not buying ProMags.

Nice!

Did they happen to mention the year? I'd like to make sure I'm available! :D

I'm shooting, just not my M&P FS9. I'm still shooting my 9c since it would be a carry piece over anything else and I'm not dropping them like I would the FS. I know the factory mags are made well, but I've heard that the newer square hole baseplates are a tad more fragile than the older round hole type.

True or not, I just want to be able to go online or at a LGS and pick more up on a whim. That's basically how I accumulated many mags for my other firearms by buying a few here and there. S&W just seems to be the only manufacture dropping the ball on getting much needed mags that are separate from the one's in the boxes for their customers.

I don't think they're "dropping the ball". I think they just weren't ready for the sales spike in M&P pistols. I'm sure they are working as hard as they can to fill the need.

Interesting observation today, Cabelas had S&W brand, M&P .40 15rd mags on their website again as "available for back order". I check their site almost daily and have even called them to ask why they weren't listed with the others. Previously I was told that it was due to the long and unknown lead time. So when I saw them today as "Backorderable" I purchased three. My conformation email from C states "Backorder-Tentative arrival to Cabelas 07/30/13"

So putting together some of the rumors...
- As checkmyswag reported above, "a LGS who has a friend of a friend that knows a guy and reports possible huge amounts in August"
- My conversations with a S&W CS rep " I know, I'm rolling my eyes too" I was told that they expect some mag releases soon, when I asked who was getting them he said watch Cableas, Brownells & Midway.

Just maybe folks, just maybe, keep watching Cabelas, Brownells & Midway. I'll try to post sooner if I see any out there available.

JFR

I called S&W yesterday trying to get a lead on mags. I was told a huge shipment was just sent to Brownells and to keep checking with them. I have yet to see it but fingers crossed.

I'm kinda confused on why someone would have used mags available or are they possibly re-manufactured. Any insight?

More then likely they were PD trade-ins.. I just ordered 10 of them last night from CDNN and mid day today had a shipping info emailed to me. I post some pictures of the mags when they arrive..

Very possible. I did order two to try them out. They arrived yesterday both used in "Very Good" but not brand new condition.

One of the mag plates has the number 19 inscribed in it the other has the number 800. So it appears to be an agency that had several. I may replace the base plates and springs but they seem to be worth the few bucks spent until new OEM are available and no doubt they are better than going the Promag route.

I can also post pics if anyone is interested but I would give the purchase a thumbs up.

Also Thanks for the head up Beckham!

Edit. As of today it looks like they still have some .40 15rd available.

If any of them were full sized 9mm I wouldn't care if they were used. I'd pay for them. If any of y'all have an extra, I'm in the market.

Smith & Wesson M&P 40/357 15rd Factory Mag Used

I figured for ~$25 ea, I needed some mags to use for USPSA matches instead of using my the 6 newish mags that came with my 40Pro and 40Pro CORE. Also, if the floor plates need to be replaced, I can replace them with an Arredondo extended base pad.

I solved my mag problem by selling my 9FS and buying a 45FS. Ordered 4 brand new mags for $25 each shipped right away. I'll probably buy a few more in a week too. S&W can have the 9mm mags distributed by tomorrow and I'd still be happy with my trade.

I'm not sure why S&W plans their vacations for everyone all at once by shutting the whole plant down instead of making sure products keep moving, but hopefully they'll actually do something about it when they get back.

Considering the mags are outsourced I'm going to assume those will continue to be made, vacation is probably a good time for any gun manufacturer as the market has come back and if they keep pumping guns out at the same rate there will be a huge glut causing rock bottom prices and lower profit margins for almost everyone in the industry. I certainly enjoy lower prices, but I also want to support my right by ensuring the best manufacturers are making a profit and have money to invest in R&D for future guns.

Which manufacture make the 45acp magazines? Maybe they should consider the company as a second source for the other calibers as well.

Might be a good idea, assuming he company that makes the .45 mags can make reliable 9/40 mags.... Or Mecgar just gets their stuff together and starts pumping serious amounts of M&P mags out.

Smith & Wesson M&P 40/357 15rd Factory Mag Used

I'm trying to get set up to shoot USPSA Limited 10. I have 4 mags for my full-sized .40, but I wanted two more. I ordered two from CDNN. They came in about 3 days, and I don't see how they are used. They appear to be brand-new, still in the S&W packaging!

I'm going to a S&W event hosted by a local gun shop in Goldsboro, NC August 2rd & 3rd, Salesperson I spoke with wasn't quite sure if the S&W rep would be bringing M&P mags with them. This nice daddy just bought his son, who's active duty Air Force a NIB M&P 40 compact, but looking around for 2 full size 15rd mags !!

I emailed S&W and their reply was "we are producing magazines". They say they are and I have no reason not to believe them. It's just that I don't see any being sold anywhere. Yeah, they're individuals hawking some for outrageous prices, but no LGS seem to have them.
