M&P9L CORE with Deltapoint Reflex / Setscrew issue

I just installed the Deltapoint Reflex sight on my M&P9L CORE. The Deltapoint has two small set screws at the lower back of the unit. These screws need to be loosened before making any wind or elevation adjustments. Once you are finished making adjustments the set screws need to be tightened again. Unfortunately the back of the Deltapoint is too close to the rear iron sight and the Torx wrench that came with the Deltapoint will not fit between the Deltapoint and rear sight making it impossible to loosen or tighten the set screws. I would hate to have to take the Deltapoint off of the CORE during the sight adjustment process. How have others with a similar setup solved this issue?

I was thinking about getting a deltapoint until I read many reviews stating the same issue. It's kinda like having to remove your engine to change spark plugs. The RMR costs more but it is Rock solid and adjustable WHILE ON the firearm.

My c-more was the same. I cut about half off the short end of the wrench that came with the c-more to make it fit between the iron sight and the optic.

Thank you for the replies. Unfortunately the Deltapoint uses a TORX set screw. The TORX wrench is different than an allen wrench in that only the tip of the TORX wrench is designed to fit into the set screw (whereas the entire allen wrench is the same shape). I can't cut back due to this. I called both Leupold and S&W. Neither company had a solution other than removing the rear sight each time I want to adjust the optic. For those of us who want co-witness it's not so optic ready in my opinion. The easy solution would be if either company would pickup up the ball and provide a "stubby" TORX T5 wrench that would fit the small gap between the back of the optic and the front of the rear iron sight. I've been around long enough (and especially after talking to both companies that seemed to suggest the other company needs to take care of it) it will be a while if not ever that this will get resolved. I can't find a stubby TORX T5 so I will order a couple of these wrenches and will heat up the bend in the short end, straighten it then put a new bend to make my own stubby. Wish me luck. I would just return the optic but I like it and all the other optics I like also have set screws in the back of the unit. Any other thoughts or solutions would be appreciated. btw S&W suggested that I remove the rear iron sight each time I wanted to adjust the optic and that I should do it over a garbage bag since there is a small spring that may pop out... what the what?

What!? No way Jose! That's laughable. Think of what it would take to do that. Hammer and punch? You'd have to remove the optic to use a sight pusher. Count me out. RMR it is.

My Delta point adjusts just fine on the gun and torqued to 25 inlbs. Cannot imagine why they want you to adjust with the screws loose? sounds like some manual writer has screws loose.... The adjustment allens only move the diode, if your sight body is loose, you will NEVER get it adjusted correctly torqued... unless I am really missing something.... ????



Heheheh OHHHH THOSE SCREWS.... yup, I missed those LOL... mine still adjusted fine without them though... doesn't seem to lose sight picture under recoil.... I dunno.....

I have the deltapoint on my core 9L and had the same issue and the fix is, heat up and bend the wrench you got with it .It works just fine and I went down to my local auto parts retailer which was lordco auto parts here in canada and I baught a set of small torx screw drivers with the number 5 in it for $15.00 and now all is good .. The sight in was a breeze to set up and I have put through 1000 rds and I love this sight it is very accurate and clear. Its awesome!!! Hope this helps.

Hey Chevy4240, great minds must think alike! Before I foul something up I was wondering if you had any suggestions on how to get the bend so close to the TORX tip without damaging the tip itself (needle nose pliers right behind the tip)? I have a micro-torch and am ready to go to town on this thing!

Can't believe there was such an oversight on the part of S&W and the optic manufacturers they apparently partnered with. What did THEY do to solve this problem is the million dollar question... probably bent their own TORX and then told someone like that guy Milton from office space (the guy with the red stapler) to fix it.

What I did was took a Oxy/acy.torch and heated one end and staightened it ,let it cool for a bit then heated it up again and bent it to a 90 degree angle using a pair of small pliers then let it cool on its own. Bend it slowly ! I was going to bend the tool I baught to just in case I loose the original one lol..

I have a CORE 40 S&W........ I ended up getting the Delta Point, I really like the gun and optic but that adjusting stuff is a pain. I really need one of those "bent" tools. Do you have to heat it? Anyone have a pic of how it ended up?

Here is the tool after I had bent it ..
Straighten first after heating it then heat it again and bend it slowly that is the the key ...

I have the core and Delta Point and loosened the lock screws then installed and sighted in then loosened the hold down screws just enough to tilt to get access to tighten the lock screws. Have run 300 rnds so far and still dead on. Put a piece of black elec tape over led once in a while so I can use sights. Not so bad as long as you don't have to do it very often. Delta point comes with fittings for sight dovetail. Core model is new so they haven't dealt with this adjusting problem yet. I still wouldn't let it stop me from getting a delta point for a core. Nice small unit that co witnesses .

Now I know why David Bowie prefers putting his rear irons in front of his deltapoint. It has everything to do with the design of the deltapoint.

I bought a propane torch from Lowe's for $15 and was able to heat up the TORX T5 better. Leupold customer service is sending me a new TORX T5 for free as a backup. The gentleman that I spoke with mentioned that they are receiving enough calls now that the company is looking into getting wrenches that fit but warned it may be a while. I was going to bail on the Deltapoint Reflex but I like it too much (see first day out with Deltapoint / 10 rounds at 25 feet). Happy shooting!

You need the TORX size T5. You can order either the short or long arm: Torx Long Arm L-keys - 366 Series From Wiha

If you have a Deltapoint Reflex just call customer service and they will send another one (or two) to you for free.
