Its possible that we are dealing with poor communication by the OP perhaps due to frustration caused by the loss of a firearm. Benefit of the doubt says we wait to see how this plays out.

"... i empty the magazine,holstered the gun ..."

"I had to remove the magazine bottom, spring n follower to assure smith & wesson it wasnt loaded ..."

First you said that you removed the magazine and holstered the gun, THEN you say you had to field strip the magazine IN the gun to ensure S&W that it was unloaded ...

Which was it?

The way I read it is that he fired the rounds remaining in the magazine (emptied it) then holstered the pistol. When he went to ship it back to S&W the mag could not be removed from the gun so he disassembled it from the bottom.

I have used S&W warranty plus I have used all the ones you mentioned also and S&W has the best customer service out of them all Taurus a near 2nd. The only one who I had trouble with was Beretta and they lost my gun But got I got it back 6 months later then sold it.

Well, this is what happens when you have too much time on your hands. My wife and son were out of town so, I decided to try to duplicate this malfunction.

I used a M&P chambered in .40S&W full size gun. It has no modifications to it. I had 5 magazines; two 10 round and three 15 round. I used an UpLULA to help with speedy mag loading.

The idea was not to set a speed shooting record, but to try to put 400 rounds through the gun at a speed a normal person could if were just out having fun. I tried to load the mags as fast as I could so, the gun wouldn't sit too long. I managed to run through all 400 rounds in just under 18 minutes. At least the original video is about 18 minutes long and that includes all the narrative.

When done shooting, I immediately stuck the gun in a holster to try to duplicate the conditions of the OP. Once in the holster it went right in my bag and into the truck.

I cut out a big chunk of the video because it's just me shooting. I started with single shots, but did the bulk of the shooting with controlled pairs. If anyone doesn't believe I actually shot 400 rounds I guess I could load the whole video, but it would take a long time and who wants to watch that anyway?

So, here's the video I made today. Enjoy and let me know what you think...

Yes, something is fishy here. And it stinks bad.

There's no way in hell you can overheat a polymer gun by shooting it to the point where it fails.

I have shot 500-600 rounds through M&P's and Glocks without stopping. I did this on purpose. All magazines were loaded prior and yes I had to borrow a few.

Ain't no way. We're not being told the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.

I'm guessing poor ammo or poor maintenance.

I've owned polymer guns since glocks first hit the market. Duty and personal use. I now have two M&P's and they're made of the same stuff. Shot them all in a rapid succession as the OP states and never had an issue like the one described.

I think I have to agree with those listing a bad chemical reaction to some improper cleaning solvents. If Smith CS said its not a mechanical failure and still will let him have a gun at half price, I'd take it run. That's real customer service.

Thirty one years law enforcement, retired. No pics, no proof. The pics would show us all the real deal.

Had same problem with CS and my M&P 40. Sent back (9/16/13) in for repair: Extractor not working all the time, shooting low, mag required a hard slap to seat. Anyway sent gun with magazine. Received the gun back today (1014/13) in a box, with a note saying call us if you have any questions. No statement on what was done/found/?? AND NO MAGAZINE, frame pin in front of takedown lever was also way out.. Anyway call CS and waited for an hour on hold, got a rep and explained what happen, gave him the serial number: he looked it up said barrel and extractor replaced. That's it. What about my magazine, well someone checks the guns in and it said no magazine was with the gun, so I'll check with the repair guys. Anything else? Well so much for S&W the best support around. I've had better service with Taurus and Ruger. No more S&W - guess that's why Ruger is taking over. Too bad.

Smith & Wesson always states to NEVER send your firearm in with the magazine. Sometimes they send the gun back with a free one...

I would send the magazine if the issue is a feeding or cycling problem. The magazine could be the culprit.

I sent in a 15/22 with the magazine and got the same magazine back.

The 15/22 is going back again and the mag is going with it. ;)

.

The instruction sheet did say not to send the magazine UNLESS there was an issue with the magazine or something that could be part of the problem. Guess in the future I'll not send it with a magazine, but then S&W will blame my magazines. Sounds like their CS is overloaded and it shows. S&W should have learned from Taurus.

Hey, give it a rest. Nobody here wants to hear your continued belly aching! If you hate your S&W guns so much just sell them all and buy a Taurus...and good luck with their CS. This Thread wasn't about your problems anyway, although you and the OP make a dandy pair.

Where does it state that?

The first time I sent a gun to them they specifically told me to include the magazines purchased with the gun.

Well, I guess you could handle it that way, but it just sounds like "sour grapes" to me.

I know you don't want to, but call S&W again. I'll be stunned if they don't send you a magazine for free.

Have you fired the gun? Has the problem gone away? If it did, what difference does it make what they did?

I wasn't given any instructions other then, here's a label, send it in.

I'm having problems with dead trigger/reset issues.

Hopefully they don't gank my magazines seeing they're impossible to find.

-edit-

Anyone know what the average turnaround time is for warranty repair?

I asked when I was on the phone, and the question was ignored.

I hope they don't take your mags either, but I wouldn't have sent them unless they asked either. Mags are becoming more available. What caliber is your gun?

The average turn around is two weeks; door to door. I've sent a gun to them a couple of times and that was always true for me.

I sent mags, because when I first got the gun, I was having feeding issues, and the slide would drop on magazine insertion.

Both of which declined in the amount of times they happened when they sent me new followers, but still happened randomly.

9mm FS. Bought in Nov '12, July test fire date.

This is actually not a defect according to S&W.

Personally I like it. If you watch the video I posted above, you'll see that my slide drops every time I insert a new mag. I think it's faster that way. I understand that some don't like it, I do.

PS: what holster is that? Looks like a nice piece of southpaw kit.
If you're talking about the holster in the video, it's an Aker International Flatsider 168A. In my opinion that is one of the most comfortable holsters I've used. However, I have noticed that after a year or more of daily use, they tend to start to lose their stiffness. For an inexpensive holster that you can get quickly they are very good: Aker International, Inc.

I must offer up a confession though, the holster in the video is a Glock holster not an M&P. :o I used that one just in case the holster was damaged by the heat; it wasn't. I do have one specifically made for the M&P though and I like it a lot.

For a serious holster though, I prefer: R Grizzle Leather - Home
