As far as I know there are no aftermarket mag/pinky extensions available for the 9c 12 round mags (yes I know about the XGrip). My question is why has no one marketed a pinky extension similar to the one provided by S&W that is the same dimension or depth on the back as the front where the pinky rests. I love my 9c but am not too fond of the way the pinky extender only comes about 3/4 of the way down my palm.

I'm assuming it's because S&W practically gives them away if you want them. If you call and ask for an extension, they'll most likely mail you one free of cost; which essentially kills the market for another company, because who wants to by something that they can get for nothing?

Also, you said that you didn't think S&W's extension was quite long enough; lets say you need about another half inch to make it comfortable, that's an added 1/2" to the height of the 9 compact.. which is primarily used as a CC weapon. An extra half inch on a compacts' height makes it just a bit more tough to hide, which probably is another reason a 3rd party hasn't decided that producing a larger extension would be anywhere near profitable for them.

Just my thoughts on the matter

I guess you're stuck with what's available. My hands are about average so I have no problems but I certainly prefer the stock pinky extension to the flat base. I have both the FS & 40C M&Ps & using a full size mag in the compact with an XGrip is really nice. I trifle harder to conceal if I opt to carry it that way but since I also carry the FS in rotation it's not a problem.

mmracing, I already have the pinky extender that comes with the 9c, what I would like to have is an extender for the 12 round mag that extends as far in the palm as it does for the pinky, basically a similar extender that comes with the 8 round Shield mag. The 8 round Shield mag actually extends further down the palm than the 9c 12 round mag with pinky extender. I understand this type of extender would make it harder to conceal the 9c but it would be ideal for range shooting.

bulldogman: I agree with you! I too wish the mag extension was more in line with the bottom of the frame. I don't think it would add that much length, plus I feel the gun would have a more pleasing squared look instead of that angled look.

If you bothered to read my original post you would know I was talking about the 12 round mag. not a full size with xgrip.

Butthurt much? If you bothered to read mine, and everyone else's posts, nothing exists, nor will anyone be making anything. So the next best thing (which I suggested) was to run a full size mag with the x grip. That will give you a place to out your pinky, and it's not much longer than the pinky extension in the 12 round.

All this does give me an idea. S&W (or an aftermarket company) perhaps should make an extended mag for the compact models, sorta like the 8 rounder for the shield - which is actually a longer mag with an x-grip like layer, not simply a longer floor plate. give 14 rounds to the 9c *and* a place to put your pinky. I bet people would buy it.

The problem with the idea of a floor plate that extends the length of the grip on both ends is that it makes it harder to conceal a gun designed for concealed carry, and if you want more grip there is already the full size mag/xgrip option. The difference in length between the pinky rest floor plate and the FS mag is half an inch, so they are pretty close.

But I get it, if they had a floor plate that extended equally the whole grip it would be cheaper to make/purchase than a FS mag+xgrip and give you what you want without adding any weight.
