Grip Recommendation for N Round Butt for Small Hands

I bought a 610-3 today that had two sets of Hogue monogrips with it. One was S&W logo rubber and one was a nice looking set of Pau Ferro. While the grips look good, they don't fit my hand. I also have a 625 (posted about converting it earlier in the week) that is also a round butt. I think the reason that I never warmed up to the 625 MG was the grips. It also came with a monogrip and I bought an aftermarket set of RG finger groove grips, neither of which fit my hand. The finger groove are a bit smaller, but due to my small hands the finger grooves make it feel awkward.

I have several square butt N frames that I have no problem with the grips. Most have magnas and I use a BK grip adapter with them and they feel fine.

Long story short, I would like some recommendations on a smaller grip for the N frame guns that will fit my hand. Photos would also be welcome.

The earliest 610s had smooth N frame RB Combat stocks, Goncalo Alves. Don't have a photo however. These might be a handful (no pun intended) with full 10 mm loads.

Hogue makes a rb to sq butt conversion grip without finger grooves that provides no extra rubber on the back and is more round than elongated.

I too have small hands, so was looking for something I could get my fingers around for an N framed model 58 in 41 mag, when I kept seeing Ahrends grips pop up on others guns . So I ordered a set of his Retro Combat in dark cocobolo, unfinished so I could slim them down....slimming was not necessary, Aherends are designed to fit a normal person's hand, they fit mine perfectly. and I got the exact color I requested. I will be ordering some more for a K frame...I'm thinking his Retro Targets.

The Combats that murphydog is referring to are on the right in the attached pic. Early combats are on the left. The size difference is definately noticeable. The smallerCombats are very comfortable for my medium hands.

I ordered a set of Altamont Magna grips and added a grip adapter. This combination fits my small hands much better. I also got a Hogue rubber grip without finger grooves. While it is better than the fingergroove grips, it is still a bit large for my hands.

The Altamont Magnas and grip adapter is a good choice. Another would be the Ahrend's round butt Tactical or Ahrend's/ Altimont Boot Grip. They are open backstrap and do not extend below the grip frame. Both are well made and look great too. The old Pachmayer Compaq Gripper is a nice rubber option which shows up on eBay.

My 21-4 Thunder Ranch came with Ahrend's Tactical round butt grips, shown here on the gun, which were way small for my large hands.

I have small hands. Spegel boot grips work best for me; Ahrends Retro Banana grips are not bad either.

Hogue's rubber finger-groove grips are pretty good, as are Pachmayr's Compac Grips. That's what I use on my two RB N revolvers (a 325PD and a 4.25" 25). Badger finger-groove grips are pretty good, too, and nicer-looking, but maybe not as good a fit for me as the first two. Close, though.

P.S. I strongly doubt that RB-SB conversion grips are what you are looking for. With a RB, at least you have a chance of finding grips that fit your hand.

I have used a Dremel tool to grind away some of the rubber from a set of Hogues. There is a LOT of excess rubber that can be removed to make the grip fit YOUR hand better.

I bought two sets of Hogue Pau Ferro finger groove wood grips from a forum member here for my 610 and 625. I removed the Hogue rubber and replaced with the wood and have been a very happy camper ever since. If you don't want the finger grooves they also make the wood without them.

I have fairly small grubbies. Used the Spegel boot grip on my last MG. Worked fine, but don't really care for finger grooves on my grips.
Will be buying a pair of modified Hogue's from a forum member here. No finger grooves.

These are the smallest grips I know of for a round n frame:

They have to be about the smallest grips possible -- fully exposed grip frame. Probably would want a T Grip with them.

I like the Miculek grips. Good for small hands, no finger grooves that try to spread your fingers under recoil. I've got a pair on a 625 and then bought a pair for a 686+.

What "GW" said . . . works for me. I have larger hands for a gal and the Retro Combats are perfect for me. I have them on a 617, 686, and 629 - perfect, perfect, perfect.

BTW: you can get the Ahrends on the Internet and avoid the wait. (Ebay)

The seller goes by gripseller and she is aces! I've purchased seven pairs of Ahrends grips from her. Nice thing is, you see the actual grips you are buying. Price just went form $60 to $70 per pair.

My new 627 came with the lowest profile grips I have ever seen. I am kind of worried that they will snap with too much pressure. They would be great for small hands.

I too have small hands. I went with the JM grips and really like them. They are a bit slick which can be an issue if your hands are really dry. I do like the sound of Ahrends Retro Combat grips and I think I may order a get of the round to square butt conversion ones without finger grooves. I have yet to hold a set of finger groove grips that actually fit my hand.

Gripseller on ebay is the best place to get Ahrends grips!
