Suggestions? The best bourbon for one of the most important toasts of a man's life...

HERE'S AN UPDATE!

A quick up date for anyone that is interested - the wedding went off without a hitch, my son and his wonderful bride looked fantastic, the reception was a blast and a good time was had by all.

The bourbon dilemma was solved by a very generous forum member who took it upon himself to gift a total stranger with a bottle of Woodford's. My son was quite surprised to open a package from an unknown sender to find a bottle of bourbon and a congratulatory note. The gift made our toasts that much more special and the bottle was shared, not only with his grandfather and I, but his groomsmen and new father in law as well. I can say that it is one wedding gift that will never be forgotten.

Also, I took thebeamanater107's advice and brought Maker's Mark cigars for the guys. They were well received and thoroughly enjoyed with the Woodford's.

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions.

Always enjoyed Wild Turkey.

Last June I discovered Wild Turkey Rare Breed, end of story.;)

I'm speaking now as a Kentucky Colonel, with my father having been born in the commonwealth. Kentucky bourbon is in our blood, and I think between us we've tried them all.

The hands-down best, in my opinion, is a little-known brand called Rebel Yell. It holds the top spot formerly held by I.W. Harper, the maker of which decided to start sending nearly 100% of their output to Japan. The people there are willing to pay through the nose for it. I still have a quarter-bottle of it, inherited from my father. It must be 40 years old.

I was introduced to Rebel Yell by a bourbon aficionado who sent me a prized bottle of it for my birthday many years ago. He has since passed on, but I will always be grateful to him. Rebel Yell is so very, very, smooth and flavorful. I order it by mail from a distributor in Los Angeles; I believe it's one of the few sources. It's pure Bourbon nectar.

I must remind some people that Jack Daniels and Gentleman Jack, while they are fine whiskeys, are not bourbons. These are often referred to as Tennessee Whiskey or American Whiskey. Real bourbon comes from Kentucky, and nowhere else.

God Bless your son & all he has done for this wonderful country.

I see you are a Makers Mark person; well try this MAKERS MARK 46; it has strong hints of carmel, spice and vanilla; aged in barrels with oak planks inserted. I had it at a dinner party several months ago & it was delicious. It costs around $45 a bottle.

Glad to hear the wedding was a success, the donated bourbon was a hit, and the cigars were enjoyable!!!!!

Hats off to the generous donor of the bourbon!!! What a fabulous gift, and I hope the kindness comes back to that person ten-fold! :D

And the next time someone comes across this dilemma, I'd advise to skip the nasty tasting gasoline gag liquor and have yourself a nice refreshing BEER!!! :p

.

My FAVORITE is Single Barrel Jack (really a sour mash whisky), and I also really like Woodford's Reserve. Those would be my 2 suggestions but in all honesty it's an individual taste thing.

Congrats!
